Dear Readers Happiness is a God’s gift to humanity. How are we using this gift? Are we gifting our happiness to others? How often? How well? Imagine a world without happiness! Scary!! In our blind run for success, we skip the end result – satisfaction and happiness. Why do we postpone it? The time to be happy is now. Absolutely. Go out and enjoy the sun rise, the rose or the rain. Go back to the little pleasures we keep missing to gain something big one day. The day is today. Don’t worry, be happy. Right away… Cheers, Rajiv Khurana Editor rajiv@rajivkhurana.com 9810211256.

Creating HAPPINESS@workplace

Hold Hands; Huddle Together Cricketers do it. Footballers jump on each other. There is a charisma in your touch. You convey your presence and participation with your team – in good times and in not so good times. Create opportunities for such togetherness, proximity and celebrations.

Avoid Blame Game; Be Resilient

Finding faults is easy. Mistakes happen. When you search for one, you find many. Focus on the fault and not on the defaulter. Make patience and perseverance your constant companions. Enable your people to learn from their mistakes. Encourage them to “Always commit a new mistake.”

Praise in Public; Propagate Good Work Those days of reprimand in public are over. Find reasons to praise people. Make their day, every day. When they a good work, go out and shout. Everyone loves recognition. Make it genuine and from your heart. Believe in what you do. Cosmetic touch-ups will work to the contrary.

Play For Passion; Performance Follows No batsman steps into the crease knowing that he would score a century. He plays to his potential. He enjoys what he does. Ball by Ball. Not taking his head off. Passion pays. Performance results. Work the way you love it. Every day. Every hour. It will show. It will produce.

Infect Others Only a lighted candle can light another. What use is your happiness if others around you live in gloom? Influence them. Invigorate them or else infect them with your smile that flows from your well grounded happy profile. Of course, use your protective gear and not fall a prey to them ;).

Acronym developed by Rajiv Khurana

Neutralize Negativity; Remove Past-baggage

3

People around would always have the burden of bad/foul experiences of the past with each other that creates boundaries of indifference or aggression. Help them work on them. Encourage them to bury the hatchets. Life is too small for all these things.

Enjoy Today; Avoid Postponing Happiness You can suddenly not become happy when you are designated as the CEO of your organization. Unfortunately, people around you may also have similar such pursuits. Hold on. Take stock of the day. There are many reasons to be happy about today. Don’t sacrifice them for something in the distant future.

5 Surprising Happiness Tricks

Feeling down? Try these allnatural moves to boost your mood big time. - Holly C. Corbett

7

Right about now, we’re guessing you could use a little pick-me-up. These surprising—easy!—moves can have a big impact on your happiness levels right now. Try these research-backed tips for a sunnier disposition. 1. Hit the bottle. The water bottle, that is. Being mildly dehydrated can make your mood, energy levels, and ability to think clearly plummet—especially if you’re a woman, according to a recent study in The Journal of Nutrition. Your urine is a good way to gauge your hydration level: The darker it is, the more likely you're dehydrated. 2. Move in slow-mo. Over the next five minutes, slow completely down. Make your movements deliberate while focusing your attention on being present in the moment—whether it’s feeling the warm suds on your skin while washing dishes or savoring the coffee you’re sipping. “When you live your life with your awareness engaged in the present moment and learn to be here now, you appreciate the simplest things," says Sarah McLean, author of the new book Soul Centered. "Ordinary tasks will begin to have new dimensions and depth.”

5 Surprising Happiness Tricks [Contd.,]

3. Go green. People exposed to nature not only feel less stressed, but they also have lower levels of the stress-hormone cortisol in their bodies, finds a recent study from researchers at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Take a few minutes to connect with nature by taking a quick walk during your lunch break—city parks count!—or bundle up with your honey for some after-dinner stargazing. Instead of a weekend brunch date, meet your buddy for a Sunday morning hike. 4. Show off your strengths. Take a moment to think about what you do best. Are you an empathetic listener? Excellent baker? Impressive organizer? Mildly depressed people who practiced positive activity interventions for a week—such as using one of their signature strengths in a new way or writing down three good things about their lives—reaped a boost in well-being that lasted for six months, according to a study in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine. Call a friend who’s going through a rough time, or bake some banana bread for your neighbor; you’ll feel better and so will the people around you. 5. Get sweaty. We know, we know: When you're feeling low, hitting the track for 15 minutes is the last thing you want to do. But if you needed another reason to be convinced that getting some exercise really can make you feel better, try these: Study participants who did at least 15 minutes of vigorous physical activity reported higher levels of excitement, finds a new study in the Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology. Another exercise bonus: Workers who exercise are half as likely to experience burnout as their sedentary counterparts, reports new research in the Journal of Applied Psychology. 8

A beautiful, expensively dressed lady who complained to her psychiatrist that she felt that her whole life was empty and it had no meaning. So, the lady went to visit a counsellor to seek out happiness. The counsellor called over the old lady who cleaned the office floors. The counsellor then said to the rich lady "I'm going to ask Mary here to tell u how she found happiness. All I want u to do is listen to her." So the old lady put down her broom and sat on a chair and told her story: "Well, my husband died of malaria and three months later my only son was killed by a car. I had nobody. I had nothing left. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, I never smiled at anyone, I even thought of taking my own life. Then one evening a little kitten followed me home from work. Somehow I felt sorry for that kitten. It was cold outside, so I decided to let the kitten in. I got some milk, and the kitten licked the plate clean. Then it purred and rubbed against my leg and, for the first time in months, I smiled. Then I stopped to think, if helping a little kitten could make me smile, may be doing something for people could make me happy. So, the next day I baked some biscuits and took them to a neighbour who was sick in bed. Every day I tried to do something nice for someone. It made me so happy to see them happy. Today, I don't know of anybody who sleeps and eats better than I do. I've found happiness, by giving it to others." When she heard this, the rich lady cried. She had everything that money could buy, but she had lost the things which money cannot buy. "The beauty of life does not depend on how happy you are; but on how happy others can be because of you..." Happiness is not a destination, it's a journey. Happiness is not tomorrow, it is now. Happiness is not dependency, it is a decision. Happiness is what you are, not what you have.

“Happiness is the art of never holding in your mind the memory of any unpleasant thing that has passed.” Unknown “If you want happiness for an hour — take a nap.’ If you want happiness for a day — go fishing. If you want happiness for a year — inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime — help someone else.” Chinese Proverb www.thepersonnellab.com or http://tinyurl.com/q45glgs

“Don’t rely on someone else for your happiness and self-worth. Only you can be responsible for that. If you can’t love and respect yourself – no one else will be able to make that happen. Accept who you are – completely; the good and the bad – and make changes as YOU see fit – not because you think someone else wants you to be different.” Stacey Charter

“There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.” Epictetus
