FATBIKE-SPECIFIC SUSPENSION TRAVEL 100mm of Split Pivot® rear wheel travel that is tuned to work in tandem with high volume, low-pressure 26 x 4.0” fatbike tires. The result is ground-clawing traction monster that redefines what line choice is, both up and down the hill. The frame is designed and balanced for a 100mm travel, 50mm offset RockShox Bluto suspension fatbike fork

MULTIPLE WHEEL & TIRE OPTIONS Bucksaw is designed around 26 x 4.0” tires mounted on 65–82mm rims and inflated to 8–12psi depending on rider weight and terrain. Bucksaw is also compatible with other wheel setups that roll out to a 735–740mm overall diameter. This includes 27.5 x 3.0–3.25” (27.5+) and 29 x 2.3–2.5”, as long as the wheels and tires are laced to 177/150mm hubs to match the frame and fork, respectively

BUCKSAW GEOMETRY 4” high-volume tires and full suspension combine to create a bike that wants to climb up lines most other bikes can’t, and when pointed downhill, the gyroscopic stability and traction of all that rubber begs to let off the leash. As a result, the geometry has been tailored to match; slack and low, the Bucksaw is closer in angles and feel to our Horsethief than it is to a Mukluk or Beargrease. The Bucksaw is designed to handle best when you are getting after it, using the advantages of fat tires and suspension to their full monster-truck capacity

BEARGREASE CARBON SALSA FATBIKE GEOMETRY

The geometry used across our entire fatbike line has remained basically unchanged since developing the Beargrease Carbon back in 2012. We’ve adapted it to all our fatbike models because it works extremely well in all conditions and use cases, whether it be riding groomed singletrack at your local trail, exploring a deserted beach, or embarking across the wild frozen expanses of Alaska in the ITI race. At its core, we use the shortest chainstay possible in conjunction with a headtube angle and fork offset that place the rider’s center of gravity further over the rear wheel. This location and combination of front and rear center is key to getting a fatbike that is stable, steers well in loose conditions, and still also feels nimble and agile despite the massive wheels and tires. A low bottom bracket height is also key, to keep the rider’s center of gravity low, and to make dabbing and dismounting easier

XC/TRAIL-SPECIFIC SUSPENSION TRAVEL 120mm of Split Pivot® rear wheel travel that is tuned with a progressive leverage ratio but slightly linear tail end; the end result is a very efficient pedaling frame that has very supple small bump feel off the top, a lot of mid-stroke support for corner and pumping terrain, and a subtle ramp (but not too much) in end-stroke that ensures a bottomless feel, while still maximizing the use of all 120mm of rear wheel travel. The frame is designed and balanced for a 120mm travel, 51mm offset front fork, but has been updated for 2016 to allow the use of 130mm travel, 51mm offset forks for aggressive 29er riders looking to add BB height and slacken the headtube angle, and also to compensate for the slightly smaller diameter of 27.5”+ wheel and tire combos

2016 PONY RUSTLER WITH 130MM SUSPENSION FORK Recommended Rider Height

For 2016 the Horsethief/Pony Rustler frame retains its capacity for run 29” x 2.25–2.4” wheel and tires setups, but sees an upgrade to BOOST rear spacing and BOOST drivetrain component compatibility. This allows the use of 27.5+ setups (27.5 x 3.0”) and gives rise to the Pony Rustler name, a Horsethief frame spec’d stock with 27.5+ wheels. Both Horsethief and Pony Rustler models are spec’d and compatible with 110mm-spaced 29/27.5”+ (51mm offset) forks up to 130mm in travel, which allows the rider to toggle between 29/27.5”+ wheelsets with simply a wheel change

VERSATILE WHEEL & TIRE OPTIONS

The Horsethief/Pony Rustler is a big-wheeled (29/27.5”+) bike that is surprisingly playful and aggressive thanks to a low-slung stance and short 437mm chainstays. A 67.5–68.1° head angle (depending on fork travel) was progressive for a 29er back when the design was conceived between Dave Weagle and Salsa, and has since proven to be the modern day gold standard for most 29er and 27.5”+ trail bikes. This provides a confidence inspiring angle of attack for rough and steep terrain, and the large wheel diameter paired with a 51mm offset fork maintains a well-balanced steering feel that is nimble enough in twisty corners and techy climbs, and still stable at high speed

XC/TRAIL-SPECIFIC SUSPENSION TRAVEL 120mm of Split Pivot® rear wheel travel that is tuned with a progressive leverage ratio but slightly linear tail end; the end result is a very efficient pedaling frame that has very supple small bump feel off the top, a lot of mid-stroke support for corner and pumping terrain, and a subtle ramp (but not too much) in end-stroke that ensures a bottomless feel, while still maximizing the use of all 120mm of rear wheel travel. For 2016 the Horsethief/Pony Rustler frame retains is capacity for run 29 x 2.25–2.4” wheel and tires setups, but sees an upgrade to BOOST rear spacing and BOOST drivetrain component compatibility. This allows the use of 27.5+ setups (27.5 x 3.0”) and gives rise to the Pony Rustler name, a Horsethief frame spec’d stock with 27.5+ wheels. Both Horsethief and Pony Rustler models are spec’d and compatible with 110mm spaced 29/27.5+ (51mm offset) forks up to 130mm in travel, which allows the rider to toggle between 29/27.5+ wheelsets with simply a wheel change

The Horsethief/Pony Rustler is a big-wheeled (29/27.5+) bike that is surprisingly playful and aggressive thanks to a low-slung stance and short 437mm chainstays. A 67.5–68.1° head angle (depending on fork travel) was progressive for a 29er back when the design was conceived between Dave Weagle and Salsa, and has since proven to be the modern day gold standard for most 29er and 27.5+ trail bikes.
