aking sure that Hastings children have something to eat at home takes a lot of effort and money, which is why a bowling fundraiser next weekend will collect donations to help pay for 550 after-school meals for elementary and middle school students in Hastings schools. This fundraiser helps low-income, elderly and disabled residents keep their heat on through the winter. It's not too late to gather family, friends & pledges & walk in the event. Your participation is much appreciated. Help keep our community warm and call 1-877-422-2726 for details. 3. It's a full week at the Hastings Public Library. Story Time is about “Counting Cookies” with Toddlers meeting Tuesday at 10:30am & Pre-School Friday at 10:30am. Chess/Checkers Club and Genealogy Club meet Tuesday at 6pm along with Love Your Device. If you are having trouble with your tablet, phone or laptop bring it in and the staff will help you make sense of it all. Thursday at 4:30pm Movie Memories and Milestones will be watching Fred MacMurray in “Father Was A Fullback”. I know few want to hear it, but tax time is here. If you would like some help, VITA Tax Counseling is available at the Library. Call 945-0526 for an appointment. Don't forget about the Adult Winter Reading Club, too. Keep filling those punch cards! 4. The Village Players of Middleville have their annual play coming up at the Yankee Springs Golf & Restaurant. “A Bad Year for Tomatoes” is a hilarious play dealing with the funny misfortunes of a television actress who seeks to “get away from it all”. Performance dates are February 26, 27 and March 3, 4, 5 and your $30 ticket includes dinner and dessert. Doors open at 6pm and dinner is at 7pm. 5. The St. Patrick's Day Parade e is just a month away. Mark your calenders for March 17, 4pm on South Jefferson Street. If you would like to join in the parade, show up in the alley behind WBCH at 3:30. This unorganized, fly by the seat of your pants, parade is one of the best of the year, so plan on coming out and celebrating spring with us. 6. The Thornapple Arts Council will host a Comedy Nightt at 7:30pm Saturday, February 27 at the Barry Community Enrichment Center. The evening will feature local & regional comedians. The show's headlining act is Grand Rapids area comedian Floyd J. Phillips and the feature act is Nardos Osterhart. Tickets are $10 in advance & $15 at the door. Check the TAC Facebook page for more information. 7. The 19th Annual Barry County Pheasants Forever Banquet is next Saturday, February 28th at Ever After Banquet Hall. The doors open at 5pm for the buffet dinner and they will be giving away hundreds of prizes. You need to sign up for the dinner and raffles and time is getting short. The Pierce Cedar Creek Institute e is hosting the workshop with Don Snoeykink of Thornapple Woodlands. He is returning to again teach the basics of equipment and cultural practices that new beekeepers need to be successful. Saturday, Feb 27th 9am-3:30pm is the day but you need to register by February 23. The cost is $70 for members and $90 for non-members. 9. Things are start to look a little like spring in The South Jefferson Street General Store e now that Valentine's Day is over. We have started getting out the St. Patrick's Day & Easter Cards and decorations. Seems like we are pushing it, but Easter is March 27th this year. We received an order from Rock Flower Paperr this week that had bags with bicycles on them. I don't think they will be around s and long. New picture frames from Prinz, new Kitchen Gadgets Games s also arrived this week. The WoodWick k candle of the month is Cinnamon Chai and although February just arrived, it's almost over and so is the 25% off sale.
