he magnificent colors of changing tree leaves dress up a now-quiet Barry County Courthouse fountain that provided many a Friday concert setting this past summer. Not ready to give up on the season or on their art are French horn player Sheree’ Newell, ballerina Riley Scoville, and trumpeter Ben Peters, who were among the many who’ve benefited from programs and scholarships sponsored by the Thornapple Arts Council. The Fridays at the Fountain concert series is one of many programs the arts council brings to the county thanks, in large part, to funding that comes from the annual Auction for the Arts. This year’s gala benefit is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Barry Community Enrichment Center and will again feature some fabulous cultural gifts up for auction bid. You and your family are invited to put on your costume and join Historic Charlton Park for an afternoon of family fun during the annual All Hallowed Eve Event today from 3pm - 6pm. Enjoy trick or treating in the village, games on the village green, a hay maze, scavenger hunt, pumpkin painting, balloons and more. Prizes awarded for best costume in a number of categories, refreshments will be served. Cost is $3 for age 13 and up, age 12 and under are free. 7. The 8th annual Hastings Elks Deer Hunters Ball will be on Saturday, November 2 beginning at 5 pm. The fun begins with a $10 a plate heaping of “Pork Feast” served at 5 pm.
