2013 WINTER ENRICHMENT & POOL ACTIVITIES ADULT ENRICHMENT CLASSES Participants must be 16 or older unless otherwise stated. LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES #LO01– MELGES APPROACH TO PHOTOGRAPHY - This eight week class taught by local professional photographer Dave Melges will help beginning and advanced photographers learn a genuinely new approach to photography. Melges’ unique style of teaching photography will help participants develop and advance their skills through instruction on theory, technology, technique, style, projects, and editing. Composition, light and style will be emphasized over expensive cameras and software. Participants can expect to learn at least something about EVERY kind of photography. Participants will also be able suggest topics that they would like to see covered. No equipment is required, but bringing your own camera is recommended, so you can ask specific questions about it. Ideally, if you don't own a camera, or plan to buy a NEW camera, it makes the most sense to attend at least ONE class before making your decision. There is no advantage to having a camera before you start, and there is a HUGE advantage to waiting until some of the newer technology has been explained before you buy! The class includes a simple version of the software used to teach editing as well as texts, example images, online tutorials, fonts, backgrounds, and other digital assets. The software is not compatible with Mac computers but the TECHNIQUES used in editing apply in various forms in virtually all photo editing suites, including Photoshop. Dave Melges is a full-time professional photographer in Battle Creek Michigan. His original style of photography emphasizes decision making over technology or opportunity, and his class is heavily based on the strength of composition. He has been teaching his own approach to photography since 2008. Ages 14 and up are welcome! Teens and parents are encouraged to attend together- students ages 14 to 18 receive a 50% discount when registering with an adult (full pay) family member. Pre-registration required. Tuesdays, 1/22-3/12 - 6:00-8:00 PM - Lakeview High School, room A-103 - Instructor Dave Melges - Cost: $60– 8 classes *Student discount– students ages 14-18 receive a 50% discount when registering with an adult (full pay) family member. COUPONING BY STORM- COUPONING 101 - Do you need to save some money after all that Christmas shopping? Learn how to save 30% or more on your weekly grocery bills while still buying those name brand foods, shampoos, cosmetics, toothpaste, soaps, cleaning supplies and pet foods that you know and love! Participants in this class you will find out how to organize their coupons, gather different coupons from various newspapers and online resources, and how to combine these strategies to get the biggest savings impact for your household. Cutting out a coupon and buying that item to get $1.00 off doesn’t create the kind of savings that this class will show you how to achieve! Instructor Stormie Munoz has been teaching classes locally and around Michigan for 3 years. She has also been a contributing columnist for 3 newspapers and works with various area stores. This class is great if you’re a single person shopping for yourself, if you have a large family, or if you belong to women’s group or church group– it doesn’t matter what size your “family” is, you can still cut your grocery bill! You will also learn ways to use your new couponing skills to give back to your community! Students will be required to sign an internet user agreement. Pre-registration required. Classes are in room A-2 at Lakeview Middle School Taught by instructor Stormie Munoz - Cost: $25 –1 class - #LO02 – Wednesday, 2/27, 6:00-9:00 PM - #LO03 – Monday, 3/11, 6:009:00 PM #LO04- COUPONING BY STORM – UPDATES CLASS! Calling all PAST Couponing 101 participants – so much has changed in the world of couponing in the last 7 to 8 months that you may be finding yourself confused and frustrated! Join Stormie for this mini update course where you will learn the latest rules and regulations for couponing in our local stores! Couponing 101 is a pre-requisite for this class! Stormie will not be teaching her system in this class, just the updated rules and store policies. This class does not allow sufficient time for Stormie to explain and answer questions regarding the how-to’s of her system so we must limit it prior Couponing 101 participants only. Pre-registration required. Wednesday, 2/20 - 6:007:30 PM - Lakeview Middle School, room A-2 - Instructor Stormie Munoz - Cost: $15–1 class — Wednesdays, 2/06-2/20 6:00-7:30 PM - Lakeview Middle School, Library - Instructor Deb Miller - Cost: FREE– 3 classes #LO05– PARENT EMPOWERMENT: PARENTING WITH LOVE AND LOGIC – Do you struggle with getting your child to do homework, chores, or even follow house rules? Learn the Love and Logic way to parenting! Take the stress and anger out of the communication between you and your child. Raise children who are self-confident, motivated and ready for the real world with this win-win approach to parenting. This workshop will be taught by Deb Miller, Lakeview Middle School counselor. This course is free but we do ask that you pre-register. Child Care provided (no infants)– please indicate at time of registration if you need child care. Please include the number of children and the ages. Pre-registration required. Wednesdays, 2/062/20 - 6:00-7:30 PM - Lakeview Middle School, Library Instructor Deb Miller - Cost: FREE– 3 classes #SPLO01– GETTING PAID TO TALK - Could you be the voice for Audio Books, Animation and Gaming, Training Material, Documentaries, Movie Trailers, Audio Web Content, Commercials, and more? With advances in recording technology, growth of the internet and increasing demand for training and educational material, the voice over field is expanding dramatically. Learn how ordinary people with good communication skills are finding tremendous success and enjoyment in this growing field! In this class you will learn what a voice over is, which voice types are hired the most, why there’s increased demand for new voices, what a winning demo looks like and where to begin! Professional voice opportunities in and around our community will also be discussed! Students will also have the opportunity to ask questions and to hear examples of demos recorded by professional voice actors. Participants may opt to take the next step and record a commercial script under the direction of the Voicecoaches.com producer! This class is an overview of the industry– it is not a “training” class. It provides participants with information about the industry, opportunities available, what skills are needed and where to begin if you are interested in pursuing it as an opportunity. Pre-registration required. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: THURSDAY, MAY 8TH! After May 8th, check with the Community Services Office for availability. Thursday, 5/15 - 6:30-9:00 PM - Lakeview High School, A-103 - Voice Coaches, LLC - Cost: $24 – 1 class
