Dear Shopper News Readers, When I came to the community in 1976, the Battle Creek Shopper News was a budding publication dedicated to combining personal news with articles and announcements of local community interest and importance.

Through the positive power of the Shopper, our community is a better place to live. It’s contribution to the community is exemplary. Battle Creek is very fortunate to have a “people’s paper” where the content is very much affected by what we, the people, want to talk about.

My earliest memories are of going to 306 W. Columbia to place an ad or news story in The Shopper. I always found the staff to be very interested and supportive of the information and news I needed to share with the community. During my 30 years at First Assembly of God Church, I found The Shopper to be an enthusiastic supporter of the events that our congregation wanted to share with the community. When coming to CityLinC in 2008, I was equally delighted to ﬁnd The Shopper to be a faithful friend to the non-proﬁt agencies in town. I was so impressed with their excitement to help those of us who want promote good will, community service and volunteerism throughout our community.

Here’s an example. This summer, once again, the Shopper featured CityLinC’s Annual Stuff-A-Bus School Supplies Campaign on its front page and wrote a nice article about our benevolent program. From that issue alone, community donations began to skyrocket. CityLinC credits the Battle Creek Shopper with most successful Stuff-A-Bus campaign to date, prompting over $4,000 in ﬁnancial contributions, and multiple donations from caring individuals as well as large
