Battle Creek SHOPPER NEWS, Delivered Free to Nearly 50,000 Area Homes – October 29, 2015 – Page 3

Thank you, readers, for continuing to value community news In today’s breakneck-paced, cold bottom line world, words of thanks and encouragement are rare or forgotten. Which is why we, as a staff at J-Ad Graphics, feel so fortunate today. Thank you for your participation in our voluntary payment program and for your encouraging comments. Thank you, too, to folks who, though unable to contribute financially, took the time and the consideration to thoughtfully reflect on what we do right and on what we need to work toward. We work hard as a staff because we, like you, hold our community dear and want to reflect it best. In every endeavor, though, there’s

room to improve. Your encouraging words and helpful suggestions will help us to do exactly that. Thank you for your response this year and your assistance. As we continue to grapple with the growing expense of newspaper production and delivery, you are helping us to maintain our resolve -- both financially and personally. From all of us at J-Ad Graphics

What some of our readers said... “During this snow storm, we relied on the Shopper for the road closings, school closings and everything else in between! Thank you for being a resource the community can rely on!” – Shelley Laak Futrelle -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Cutting edge news reporting via twitter and facebook. A real asset to Battle Creek. – Robert Ashley” -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“LOVE waken up to the shopper every Thursday morning THANK YOU FOR MANY YEARS OF SERVICE... – Pamela Miller” -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Got my 1st BC shopper news.. Yay hoo. Luv it!” – Carrie Maysonet -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“This message is simply to say THANK YOU. You provided for us the attached press release for our program help on July 25, 2015. We really believe that we would not have had the attendance there had it not been for your recognition. I’m reminded of the early and mid nineties when all the community had to do was to get the information to the Shopper, and no problems of printing it. You are truly a great community advocate, and we look forward to one day being able to do something for you. YOU ARE APPRECIATED BY THIS GROUP OF YOUNG PEOPLE. May God continue to favor you and your coworkers." – Franklin Ballard -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Hello Shelly. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I so much appreciate you printing the article regarding DAR Good Citizens for the Battle Creek Chapter. I was just elated, as I’m sure the girls were as well, with the local recognition your newspaper gave them. I’m around people a lot and always hear good comments about The Shopper. We are very much aware and appreciative of the news you provide that the local community wants to hear about. Thanks again, not only from our organization but from the community overall.” – Sincerely, Jackie Gillespie, Regent Battle Creek Chapter, DAR -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Hi Shelly, Good news! We raised $1,260 for SAFE Place at our concert. My goal was $800-$900, so I was really pleased as was Jennifer. Our success was due in part to you and The Shopper, so thank you!!!!” – Dick Schlatter -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Shelly, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for your article about Gini Haffner and her efforts in starting up a NAMI chapter here in Calhoun County. The stigma that is associated with ‘mental illness’ and the shame that can be felt by those experiencing mental illness is something that needs to be confronted – many families have that ‘elephant in the room’ and I believe that bringing these issues out into the open can only be helpful. Your article

For your convenience, go online to www.thebattlecreekshopper.com to our voluntary partnership site.Your partnership will make it possible for us to continue publishing the paper you’ve enjoyed for so many years.

was another welcomed step in that direction.” – Hon. Michael L. Jaconette, Calhoun County Probate Judge -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Shelly, Thank you so very much for coming out to the museum and doing a fantastic article/cover for us. There has been some good buzz associated with this. We appreciate it very much! :)” – Heather Stratton -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Oh. My. Goodness, Shelly!!! WE ARE TRULY THRILLED WITH THE COVER, the article, the headline. The whole thing!! Stunningly done. We are grateful.” – Claire Ott -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“You get the best bang for your buck if you do it (advertise) with the Shopper and you do it routinely.” – Paul Jakubiak of Uncle Jake’s at Smitty’s Sport Shop. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“The Shopper is just the greatest avenue to get our activities and events out to the public.” -Betty Moorehead -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Shelly, You really know how to capture the essence of what you are reporting about! I loved your caption, “Students, community absorb Tuskegee Airmen story.” That was my goal from the beginning. I loved that you got Lt. Col. Washington Ross ‘s picture and identified him as the 2nd Tuskegee Airmen in attendance at the W. K. Kellogg program. I loved that you showed Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson signing his book for Marie Howell who had driven from Portland to see the program with her husband. He loves two things in particular that were pretty obvious as I observed him....talking with the kids and signing his books. And I loved that you got Sam Gray’s picture with Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson!!! Needless to say, I remain s strong fan of your work. – Barbara J. Shambach” -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Doug, The article that you wrote up on Evin (I don’t know him) was a super article, It will be fun to watch how far he goes. Hoping he’ll make it big time and we can say you wrote about him first.” – Elmer Egelkraut” -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------“To the Battle Creek Shopper, especially Doug Allen – Please accept the appreciation and gratitude from everyone with the Bob Armstrong Tribute Show (BATS) for the great cover and story of our event! Doug Allen went above and beyond and wrote a piece we will all cherish for years to come. The success of the show was a collective effort and could not have been without people like you! Thanks so much." – Leslie Sullivan and everyone with BATS
