Beginning Monday, June 2, 2014 the Battle Creek Public School District will be accepting applications for the Schools of Choice 105 program through Friday, September 5, 2014, for the 2014-2015 school year. Greetings: Beginning in May 2014 and running until June 2014, we will be knocking on doors in the neighborhood asking some of the residents to participate in a community impact measurement study. Our data collectors will be coming to many of the homes in your neighborhood and asking for a few minutes of your time to complete a survey. The information collected will provide us data we need to better describe general conditions in the neighborhood and make application for programs and resources that may be available from local, state and national sources. Volunteer Development Specialist Senior Services of Southwest Michigan is looking to fill a limited-term position for someone to serve as a volunteer development specialist. This position will increase volunteer engagement and participation in the Meals on Wheels program in Calhoun County with focus on the Battle Creek area. The specialist will develop and implement a successful pilot effort for volunteer promotion, recruitment, training and retention to result in a sustainable increase in volunteer support to all facets of the Meals on Wheels meal delivery to homebound seniors. Will coach Meals on Wheels (MOW) Coordinator on effective volunteer engagement strategies. The Volunteer Development Specialist is a part-time position and is responsible for implementing the marketing, and development of a volunteer recruitment strategy for the Home Delivered Meals program in Calhoun County resulting in the recruitment of 50 volunteers. This is a limited-term position and will end no later than 6 months after hire date. Experience as a volunteer supervisor and active in volunteer engagement and development is crucial. Experience with marketing strategies and familiarity with the communities served is necessary. Affinity for working with older adults is a plus.
