Neighborhood Planning Council Updates

These meetings are all open to the public who may attend and offer suggestions about resolving certain matters of interest in the neighborhood. Any person who lives or owns property in a Council area or has demonstrable or substantial interest (i.e. works in) within the defined boundaries of the Council area may request to be considered for membership on their NPC Board. Anyone wanting to join an NPC should give his or her name to the chairperson of the Council. Attendance as a potential member is encouraged prior to recommendation by the NPC for membership. His or her name is submitted to the City Commission for official appointment.

Neighborhood Planning Councils (NPCs) are resident-based groups that serve an important and specific purpose in our community. The purpose of Neighborhood Planning Councils is to provide a forum to inform and discuss with neighborhood residents and representatives of the City staff and City Commissioners, issues and concerns of that neighborhood. Generally, the City informs the NPC of facts and potential results of pending decisions, opportunities or other changes. The NPC discusses and decides what, if any, recommendations it would like to make or strategies they would like to develop.

Mild Hogs cruise the Gulf for fun and relaxation Doug Allen Assistant Editor Thanks for the support of these silly Mild Hog stories! Friends, co-workers, fellow motorcycle enthusiasts and complete strangers frequently ask me, “so, where are you guys riding to this year?” Even Mike Wood from the Battle Creek Police Department greeted me earlier this year with: “Hey, Doug, Mild Hog!” I finally succumbed to the “Dark Side” this year and bought a 2011 Harley-Davidson Street Glide. For more than a decade I've heard, “when are you going to get a real bike?” Blah, Blah, Blah! While I miss the massive motor of my Honda VTX, the Street Glide is fantastic.

The sound system, GPS and smooth ride more than compensate for the fact that I don't have hair-raising speed anymore. I'm old. I should learn to behave. Yeah, right. Last year the original Mild Hogs were somewhat pre-occupied. Rick Corns was trying to sell his house on Goguac Lake and Dick Oldham was busy as an usher at Notre Dame football games, so Tony Goodman and I took off for Key West. Fast forward to this year, and in spite of the lousy economy, Rick sold his home and Dick had very serious back surgery and is not allowed to play golf or ride his motorcycle for a year. Rick's new home is in Nashville, TN (close to the

walked in about a half hour after we left. Oh well, maybe next time. Rock-n-roll bad boy Steven Tyler (Aerosmith front man American Idol judge) has been in town lately doing some recording and recently played piano at the Blue Bird Café (that's where Taylor Swift was discovered).

grandkids) so that was my first stop. He met me at the Bowling Green Harley dealership and rode with me back into Nashville. I could have found his home just fine with the GPS but Rick felt like going for a ride. Remember, he once rode 1,125 miles from Battle Creek to Cheyenne, WY in 17 hours, so 70 miles from his home to Bowling Green was just a hop for him. I off loaded luggage from my bike and we went downtown to hear some music. The Music City was cooking with live music everywhere. From Printer's Alley to Broadway the sound of Gibson, Fender and pedal steel guitars drifted out on the street. We started out on Printer's Alley and opted not to check out nude karaoke. I can't sing much and it gets worse after that. Further up the alley is the By accident we stumbled into the National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
