Children of alcoholics are 4 times more likely to develop problems with alcohol http://www.nacoa.net/impfacts.htm

21945 Bedford Rd.

SPONSORED BY THE BEDFORD EASTERN STAR & BEDFORD MASONS

Several decades of research shows that some teens are more at risk for developing a substance abuse problem than other teens. 4 Common Risk Factors Associated with Teen Drug and Alcohol Abuse: 1. Family History: Family history of drug or alcohol problems can place a child at increased risk for developing a problem. Children can inherit genes that increase their risk of alcoholism, so having a parent or grandparent with alcohol problems may indicate increased risk for the child. 2. Mental or Behavioral Disorder: If your child has a psychiatric condition like depression, anxiety or ADHD, he or she is more at risk for developing a drug or alcohol problem. Although not all teenagers with these disorders will develop a substance abuse problem, the chances are higher when they have difficulty regulating their thought and emotions. 3. Trauma: Children who have a history of traumatic events have been shown to be more at risk for substance use problems. Therefore, it is important for parents to recognize and address the possible impact of trauma on their child and get help for their child. 4. Impulse Control Problems: Young people who engage in more dangerous risk taking generally have a higher tendency to use substances and experience negative consequences.

The family of

Dale Everett Kissinger Jr. would like to thank all of our friends and family for all of your acts of kindness. We didn’t know so many people cared, but we sure found out you do! We thank each and everyone of you for all of your support, whether it was attending our loved one’s funeral, praying, giving a hug, a hand shake, sitting and holding our hand, simply saying “I’m sorry”, sitting and talking a while, sending a card, a phone call, a message on Dale’s web page, donating to a charity, giving a monetary gift, or volunteering to be a pallbearer. Thank you Major, Mike Wolfe for praying with us and for us, also for the food. Thank you all for the many beautiful flowers. Thank you to all of our friends who gifted us with all of the food. We didn’t go hungry, that's for sure! Special Thank you to our friends and family, Majors, Thomas and Belinda Riggs for delivering such a beautiful service. Thank you, Cadets, Faith and John Woodard, also Nate Woodard for your participation in the service. Special Thanks to the Patriot Guards for your time and all of your support. Thank you Mark Naas at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service for all of your help, and providing a beautiful service. Special thanks to our friend Joe Werner for defending Dale, or “Pops” as you called him against the news media. I (Renda) apologize for not sending a Thank You card to each individual, I don’t know everyone’s address. Also, I’m sorry for being so late getting this posted. It’s like writing the final chapter to Dale’s life, and its been very hard. Dear Heavenly Father, You saw Dale getting tired and weary, so you took him home. This has left a void in all our lives. We pray for the strength to carry on. Amen

Neighborhood Planning Councils (NPCs) are resident-based groups that serve an important and specific purpose in our community. The purpose of Neighborhood Planning Councils is to provide a forum to inform and discuss with neighborhood residents and representatives of the City staff and City Commissioners, issues and concerns of that neighborhood. Generally, the City informs the NPC of facts and potential results of pending decisions, opportunities or other changes. The NPC discusses and decides what, if any, recommendations it would like to make or strategies they would like to develop.

Public Service Announcement Provided by Neighborhoods, Inc. of Battle Creek

PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP RESIDENTS: Please vote

YES for YOUR Police/Fire Millage on AUGUST 6, 2013

Paid for by Citizens for a Safer Pennfield, 1917 Capital Avenue NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017

PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP VOTERS Due to a steady decline in residential property values since 2007, as well as the elimination of Statutory State Revenue Sharing in 2010, the Pennfield Township Board has placed on the August 6th Election Ballot a request for an additional (1.5) mils for Public Safety Protection (Police and Fire services). These mils would be in addition to the current (3.0) mils which were originally approved by the voters in 1978. The Pennfield Township Fire Department employs four (4) full-time employees who respond to all types of medical calls, vehicle accidents and structure fires. The Fire Department also employs sixteen (16) Paid on Call Firefighters (POC FF) who are only compensated when called to respond to emergency situations and when required to participate in mandatory training sessions. In 2012, the Fire Department responded to over 900 calls for service. In July of 2004, the Pennfield Township Board entered into an agreement with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department for dedicated police services. Those services include a minimum of two (2) Sheriff Deputies 24 hours per day, 7 days per week patrolling Pennfield Township. There are currently ten (10) officers from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department assigned to work in Pennfield Township. In 2012, the Sheriff’s Department responded to over 4,000 calls for service. Pennfield Township has developed a “Public Safety Millage Calculator” which is now available at our website www.pennfieldtwp.com. The “Public Safety Millage Calculator” will allow you to see firsthand what the proposed (1.5) mils would cost in terms of additional property tax dollars. The proposed 1.5 mils would cost an average residential property owner $ 72.00 per year or $6.00 per month).
