Local newspaper 'sells' the community Dear Readers, I remember when I ﬁrst came to Battle Creek (23 years ago.) Joyce Ryan was the editor of the Shopper News and I called her and told her, “Joyce, I read every article in this paper from front to back.” I never do that with any other newspaper. But, this paper has made me and brought me into the know of Battle Creek. I love this paper. I remember when I ﬁrst started doing advertising with the Shopper News. The Shopper came and did an article on me. Let me tell you, there was not a day that I was open that I didn’t make a sale. And, now I am here in downtown so things have really gotten much better for me. I know one of the things that has helped me is through your Battle Creek Shopper. I love that paper. I look forward to it every, EVERY week. In California, we had what we call a Penny Saver but it wasn’t like the Shopper. It didn’t have stories in it. It did not have the every day happenings and the news. So, I had never seen a

paper like the Shopper. My advertising in the Shopper has been very effective. I get very good feedback. It has really helped me to grow my business. It has helped me to know Battle Creek and to know different organizations and to know people and really to expand my business.
