“I was training for a half marathon with my daughter when my knee pain became unbearable. I went to see an orthopedic specialist at Bronson Battle Creek. X-rays revealed my knee cartilage was completely gone. I’m young for a knee replacement, but there was no other option. I’m a mother of six. Life is hectic. I’m always looking after everyone. Now I was the one being looked after. The nurses are so dedicated. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed such peace and quiet. Although Joint Camp was tough, I had the support I needed to flourish. My doctor told me that when he saw the damage to my knee during surgery he couldn’t believe how long I put up with it. I just hope others experiencing this severe level of pain realize they can get help, too.” Stephanie Sampson, Three Rivers, Michigan, August 26, 2014

ATTENTION ATTENTION PENNFIELD PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP TOWNSHIP VOTERS VOTERS On the November 4th election ballot you will see a Road Repair Millage Proposal for Pennfield Township. This proposal is requesting millage approval for an eleven (11) year period that would allow the Township to spend five million dollars ($5,000,000.00) towards local road repairs. Currently, Pennfield Township has 65 miles of local roads. If approved, the five million dollars would represent 70% of the total projected cost of $ 7,081,158.00. The remaining 30% (or $2.1 million dollars) would be the responsibility of the Calhoun County Road Department. Pennfield Township has placed on our website (www.pennfieldtwp.com) the proposed five year plan which shows which roads would be repaired in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. Also on the website you will find a “Road Repair Millage Calculator which will allow you to see how much the road repair millage will cost you as a property owner. The average millage rate over the eleven (11) year period is estimated at 2.8211 (or $2.8211 per $1,000.00 of taxable value). The average residential property owner would pay approximately $130.33 per year (based upon a taxable value of $46,200.00 which represents the average value of a residential property in Pennfield Township). Under Public Act 51 of 1951, all local road repairs (excluding snow plowing and routine maintenance) must be done on a shared basis with the county road commission (or county road department). The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners has set this shared basis at 70% responsibility for Township property owners and 30% responsibility for the Calhoun County Road Department. In Calhoun County, four (4) townships currently have road repair millages: Albion Township, Marengo Township, Fredonia Township and Clarence Township. There are 18 townships in Calhoun County.
