Since 1927, Georgia-Pacific has never stopped growing, innovating, & expanding. With a humble beginning in the lumber industry, they started their business with five sawmills. Fast forward to World War II and they earn the prestigious position as the largest supplier of lumber for the U.S. armed forces. Over the last century, Georgia-Pacific has stepped up to the plate and become one of the world’s leading manufacturers of paper and forest products. They’ve mastered the art of life’s simple necessities with household brands like Angel-Soft ® , Brawny ® , & Dixie ®

As of February 2023, Georgia-Pacific’s integrated packaging business operates more than 150 facilities with over 30,000 people directly employed. Any global manufacturer can attest to the need for a streamlined device and operating system to maintain productivity and company security. While Microsoft originally provided the best solution for Georgia-Pacific’s global manufacturing needs, their security requirements soon surpassed the technology’s limits.

To align with their priority to keep one eye on tomorrow, the paper product manufacturer saw the opportunity to invest in a long-term solution that could easily grow with them. In RAM ® , Georgia-Pacific found a partner whose products would work with them towards a scalable deployment and more efficient future.

Custom Solutions & Future-proofing

As Georgia-Pacific determined that new devices were necessary to run the latest software and security updates required for their manufacturing plants, they kept two key characteristics in mind while shopping. The first was ease of updates; to minimize device downtime at their plants. The second was flexibility— as a global leader, custom applications and solutions are needed to continue cutting-edge innovation.

Their winning device and operating system? The Samsung Tab Active portfolio due to Android’s flexibility to create custom applications alongside the ease of software updates. To finalize their workflow ecosystem, they opted for Zebra’s Ultra-Rugged Scanners and Abetech’s Mobile Device Management software for RFID tracking throughout their warehouses. With their new devices selected, Georgia-Pacific turned to RAM ® , curious to learn more about the GDS ® ecosystem and our forklift-specific mounting solutions. Their key concerns included keeping the devices charged for a full day of work along with protection from the harsh manufacturing environment while maintaining on-the-go mobility.

RAM® Mounts Sets the Standard

The GDS ® Tech ™ ’s standardized ecosystem is a future-proofed model that provides protection, charging, and data sync capabilities for fleets of devices. Our three-part system starts with a device-specific Intelliskin ® case featuring MIL-STD810G drop protection, ruggedized GDS ® Tech ™ pogo pins, and integrated USB Type-C connector. The integrated pogo pin connection ensures your devices are always connected— making it simple to keep your devices powered while protecting the device ports from breakage due to constant plugging and unplugging.

The second part of the GDS ® Tech ™ ecosystem is the GDS ® Tough-Dock ™ , a device exo-skeleton that can be mounted securely to warehouse vehicles such as forklifts and pickers. These device docks are modular with interchangeable dock cups for easy modification in the future when inevitable device upgrades occur.

The final part of our ecosystem are the compatible accessories, including the Magnetic Hand-Stand ™ , Keyboard ™ & 6-Port Chargers. Georgia-Pacific streamlined their solution with these accessories for seamless charging for on-the-go work.

With Georgia-Pacific always keeping an eye the future, they placed their trust in RAM ® to provide a future-proof and scalable device ecosystem that keeps their fleet of devices charged and secure while minimizing downtime and breakages. Three years later, Georgia-Pacific continues to reap the benefits of their modular RAM ® solutions as they obsolete their original Tab Active 2 units from 2020 and deploy new Tab Active 4 units with Intelliskin ®
