CAFE Fuel Economy Rules Completed The White House has announced its finalized Corporate Average Fuel economy rules after an unexpected delay of almost two weeks. The rules will affect how car makers build vehicles, starting in 2017 through 2025. Between 2017 and 2025 to get the bare minimum That CAFE rules say that all new automobiles sold in the U.S. between 2017 and 2025 to achieve a minimum of 54.5 mpg. The government decided there needs to be room for future “technologies with potential to achieve real-world greenhouse gas reductions and fuel economy improvements that are not captured by the specifications test procedures.” That is why the numbers are different from previous announcements. the nation’s CO2 emissions will be cut in half with the CAF standards, and it will almost double fuel efficiency of vehicles compared with those presently on the market. Obama explained: “These fuel standards represent the single most important step we’ve ever taken to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. … It’ll strengthen our nation’s energy security, it’s good for middle class families and it will help create an economy built to last.” Could possibly be good In order to produce the cars for the CAF regulations, according to opponents such as the House Republicans and the National Automobile Dealers Association, enormous auto loan amounts will be needed for the cars. The cars will also be much smaller than they are now to get there. Over the life of a vehicle, an individual will save $8,000 in fuel with the better standards, and the cost only increases around $2,800 per car, which is not bad. That is what proponents argue. Chrysler, Ford, GM and Hyundai are all proponents of the move. It also is supported by the UAW union and the Natural Resources Defense Council. According to Automotive News, the CAFE regulations will cost the country as much as $192 million between 2017 and 2025. That, however, will be offset by fuel savings of $515 billion. Ends up good Frances Beinecke, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, said: “Everybody is a winner today. Motorists win because they will have much more fuel-efficient

cars to drive, thus saving thousands of dollars at the gas pump every year. The auto industry — and its workers — wins because these standards will spur the creation of thousands of new jobs as well as state-of-the-art vehicles that go nearly twice as far on the same gallon of gasoline.” Have you been looking to sell or buy a new or used Ford truck?
