Mitsubishi recalls 2012 i-MiEV for airbag issues Mitsubishi is issuing a small-scale recall of a few of its 2012 electric vehicles. Mitsubishi recall There have been hardly any campaigns to target an electric intelligent vehicle. Mitsubishi is going to add to the campaigns with the 2012 model recall. The side impact and curtain airbags are affected by the recall. There will only be 49 of the EVs targeted. AutoGuide explained that all the recalled vehicles are in Canada currently. It is anticipated that the U.S. will be affected soon. Looking at software compatibility The Safety Restraint System has compatibility issues between the sensors and self-diagnostic software. That means that in a diagnostic check, the SRS warning light might come on. The problem can trigger severe injury and needs to be dealt with. One issue is that the front airbag will have a delay before inflating in an accident, making it essentially useless. The side impact airbag might not inflate either if the light is lit while the vehicle is moving. How to proceed if you have one In the event the recall does hit the United States, U.S. owners are encouraged to contact their car makers. Canada owners are expected to contact dealers about getting the sensors changed with more compatible ones. History of the Mitsubishi Between 2004 and 2006, the Mitsubishi was produced in Europe. It was initially shown off in 1998 at the Paris motor show. It was called the Intelligent Forfour back then as CEO of Swatch Watches, Nicolas Hayek, created it. It was produced with Mitsubishi and DaimlerChrysler, which meant somebody had to take it in 2005 when the automakers split. Daimler and Mitsubishi kept the Wise Forfour at that point. It only costs $30,000 to get, making it the cheapest electric car on the market. It will cost you less than $21,650 with federal incentives, according to Torque News.
