Study says clean diesel sales will see steep rise Increasing fuel costs and increased gas mileage laws will see a rise in the sales of fuel efficient vehicles worldwide. That is certain. A Pike Marketing report predicts, however, that the sales of clean diesel vehicles will even rise, to become about 12.4 percent of the planet’s light-duty automobile market. That will be true even in the United States, where it predicts they will outsell hybrid cars. Clean diesel motors There has been increased regulatory pressure in nations such as the U.S., Europe and Japan. This has led to more efficiency in diesel motors. Lisa Jerram, a senior analyst at Pike research, wrote: “Demand for diesel cars is primarily driven by their fuel economy. A diesel vehicle typically gets 20 percent to 40 percent better fuel economy than a comparable gasoline car.” Hybrids should prepare for competition There are about 9.1 million clean diesel automobiles, according to Pike’s “Clean Diesel Vehicles” report, that were sold in 2012. Pike predicts a decrease in hybrid sales over the next six years and a rise in the number of clean diesel vehicles sold per year to 13.1 million. In spite of this, Pike believes hybrid cars are here to stay, but as a niche vehicle. The report also foresees the market rise of natural fuel automobiles, which it states will also eventually outpace hybrid cars and plug-ins. Seen all over Europe Clean diesels have been selling well in Europe for a while. According to Jerram: “[Fuel economy], along with favorable tax treatment for diesel fuel, has made diesel cars tremendously popular in Europe, where they have accounted for around 50 percent of light-duty vehicle sales over the past several years.” Whole world uses it The growth of sales is expected to be seen in other markets such as the United States although the highest number of sales will most likely be seen in Eastern Europe where diesels have been popular already. According to Pike, there will be a 4.8 percent increase in global sales by 2018. Spike in American interests

In the future years, the rising price of fuel and increased government pressure will probably cause more American car buyers to want to purchase diesel vehicles, according to Pike. If Pike is correct, the U. S. will outstrip Canada with an increase of 22 percent in clean diesel sales by 2018, or to about 1 million units per year. Colorado with clean trends Global clean trends are very essential to the people in Boulder, Colorado. That is also the town where Pike Research is located.
