REDEVELOPMENT OFTHE THE CIVIC CIVIC CORE REDEVELOPMENT OF COREOF OFPUNE PUNE In this urban redevelopment project, study groups were formed
to analyze and understand the open spaces for the built-space relation, the different types of land uses that existed in the selected area, identified spaces where development measures could be proposed, laid out street patterns and devised a new scheme of land use that could be a better alternative to the existing scenario.

Pune Station Junction
Pune Station Junction This area has a bottleneck which leads to traffic congestion during peak hours. A heavily visited and populated area, a large number of boarding, lodging and transport facilities are present here. The Pune Station Bus Depot is an arterial junction and a major transit hub connecting Pune to other cities and towns. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Udyan: This park forms an important junction where different arterial roads intersect. Currently facility for pedestrian movement are not in place. The roads are also of irregular widths making it difficult for traffic to move smoothly. Zilla Parishad: This district council office of Pune is situated prominently at the Bund Garden junction. A lot of government quarters are found in this area. Therefore, daily supply stores and residential amenities find their presence here. Shahu Udyan It is an important landmark and is very popular among people living in the dense residential colonies located nearby. It also serves as a respite zone for the patients and visitors to the nearby KEM Hospital. Mudaliar and Ambedkar Roads: These roads are dotted with high end showrooms and boutiques. Several food outlets and other establishments are interspersed along these roads due to high footfall. General Post Office and Photozinco Both these structures are of historic importance and were built during the British rule in India. These are well frequented public buildings. While GPO takes care of the postal services, Photozinco is an archive office for the City of Pune. Defence Areas These are security zones and protected areas by the government of India and hence no proposal can be made for this region. These area includes offices, residential quarters and special amenities for exclusive use of the defence personnel. Because this area is well protected large residential complexes have come up in the vicinity which enjoy the security, peace and amenities of this calm and quiet area. Central Building: Most of the government offices and departments have been integrated in this building which defines the civic core. This is a huge building and is accompanied by a large number of residential quarters and allied amenities.
Amenities: Amenities have been provided near the Pune Station area to take care of the requirements of the travelers. Other amenities will accompany the residential setups. Green Buffer Spaces: These spaces have been provided to buffer the noise that comes with the major roads and insulate the residential and institutional areas from excessive noise and pollution from the main roads. Residential zones: These form the innermost areas. Smaller roads connect these spaces so as to provide larger area for development and growth. A central green area for recreation and relaxation has been planned.. The number of residential colonies have been increased in the proposal. These go up to a height of G+3. Being more in number and lower in height greatly helps the reducing the feeling of a densely populated zone,.
IV YEAR
Commercial Zone: The commercial buildings have been planned along the arterial roads. This leads to the much needed publicity and takes care of the traffic on the wider roads itself instead of bringing the traffic and chaos into the narrower streets leading to the residential colonies. In the proposal commercial buildings are the tallest among all other building typology, going up to G+5 in height to enhance visibility and grandeur.
Institutional zone: Residential setups have institutional zones in close proximity to facility ease of access for students. These structures can go up to a height of G+4 serving the purpose of public buildings. B J Medical College and Sasoon Hospital: This area has been left untouched and its institutional land use has been preserved. These buildings represent the civic core and its heritage value. People of Pune have an age old connect with these structures and are huge landmarks of Pune.

The site is located in Pune in the Civic Core which has been redeveloped by our class as a IV year design project. This centre for culinary culture is not only focuses on the great palette of food Maharashtra has to offer, but also is an area where exhibits of the various spices, herbs and condiments become the attractions for visitors. Cooking classes can be held here and live cooking shows along with food tasting can take place. All in all, a different approach to the culinary culture and ways by which this can be explored have been experimented with in this design project.

The 3 BHK units consist of various elements which have been borrowed from the Wadas of Pune. The entrance has a threshold, which inculcates a sense of respect for the space we enter into. Rooms have been planned around the sunken living space. A passage around the sunken living area is similar to the cicumambulatory passage around courtyards in the Wadas.

The flower clusters have gardens with different seasonal flowers growing, The beauty and vibrance of these flowers become a great spot to live around. Some clusters have assorted flower beds while some have a combination of one or two flower types.

The project aims at developing a 5 star resort Ajanta, Maharashtra. Located near the world famous Ajanta Caves, the site has great potential to generate revenue by tapping the tourist inflow into Ajanta. The theme of this resort is based on exploring the various elements that rejuvenate the senses of people. Cluster planning is key to this design and each cluster has a distinct identifying elementfire, water, pebbles, flowers and fountains. Situated strategically on a contoured site, the resort also has a view of the mountains around.

RESTAURANT AND CAFÉ: The restaurant and cafe areas are placed in the bottom area of the site near the swimming pool. The structure is on stilts for providing a party space for guests. The dining is on the first floor level.

The lagoons are the main water elements in this design. A few clusters of cottages and suites have been planned around these lagoons and these become the characteristic feature of such a cluster.
A cluster with a single tree and a sit out space below it has been planned for the deluxe room cluster. A private walkway to this sit out has been provided from each unit, leading to this Peepal tree (Ficus religiosa)..

PARKING AREA The parking area has been provided along the compound of the site adjacent to the tree avenue.
SWIMMING POOL The swimming pool has been planned near the café for the convenience of guests. People can grab a quick bite after a swim and relax.
ADMINISTRATION BLOCK The administration block has been situated below the view deck along the entrance avenue. ENTRY PATHWAY A lush green avenue to buffer the cold winds from the North West
Spa and meditation areas have been provided for the rejuvenation and relaxation of the guests. An essential service in 5 star resorts, these services add to the USP of the resort.

In this ethnic Indian wedding venue an attempt has been made to absorb the characteristic features of planning and organization of Paithan District, Aurangabad. Planned open spaces break the monotony of the built structure. Low cost materials have been used for construction. They are not only economical but also eco-friendly and sustainable. Mosaic tiling for the terrace, stabilized earth blocks for the load bearing structure and excavated stone blocks for landscaping are the highlights of this complex.

This design uses movable wall plates and fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) which allows sunlight and ventilation. This structure appears like a shell, however, movable plates form the openings.

.DOMES AND PENDENTIVES OF DIFFERENT HEMISPHERES
It is the dome of the Hagia Sophia that makes this wonder of the mediaeval world so famous. Hagia Sophia dome sits at the centre of the church. It is between two half domes which together equals to the diameters of the dome. Hagia Sophia Dome is carried on four pendentives and these pendentives enable its transition into the square shape of its piers below. The large size and grandeur of the dome makes it the most admirable dome in my view.

STORY BOARD THROUGH CRAFTS Through crafty cuts and colors, this story board represents a simple story of a girl who had a perfect life before Bruno, her pet came. She played with him, took care of him as if he was her baby and she had the best time of her life with him around. However, this happiness did not last long as her study break came to an end, Time flew by and now separation was difficult. With her college in another city, she was heartbroken and could not wait for her exams to get over. Even Bruno was sad and teary eyed. He could only wait for her new found friend to return. Soon her exams finished. She was ecstatic to pack her bags and return home as soon as possible,. She hopped on the next bus and rushed home. She was thrilled to see Bruno and so was he. Their wait had ended and they were back to the good old days!

ART OF ABSTRACTION The distinct use of lines to mark the skirts and the tree trunks have been the main elements of abstraction as depicted in the model. All other elements seemed to fade away, but the skirt outlines and trunks seem to catch the essence of the painting. An attempt has been made to showcase this essence.
3 D COMPOSITION
3 D objects have been made out of a single paper in monochrome. Spheres have been made out of paper mash. Cubes, pyramids and cylinders have been made and assembled to reflect on the chaos that surrounds human life. The colored cylinder is synonymous to the beacon of light we all seek to break the this chaos in search of peace.
2D TO 3D This exercise portrays the jaws of a shark made from a single piece of paper. The paper has not been cut apart, the jaws are a protruding from the paper with the help of supports on the inside. A few incisions helped create this simple yet innovative design. The lower jaw has been shaded so as to give the work a realistic feel. Hope it could shock you too!
