I Design Statement
In my work, I aim to attempt new things, I aim to break rules and steer away from what is a “standard expected design. Even though I try to be unique and irregular, amongst my own designs I focus on a few key design principles that remain consistent in my works. Vector; creating a virtual passage to visitors of the designed space through the use of geometry, finishes and lighting. Continuity; making the space harmonious by creating a rhythm with the use of materials and design elements. Emphasis; creating a focal point in the design using the previously mentioned principles, making the emphasized element the core of the project.

Matrix + Stevens HQ
Winner of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) New York City Thesis Award - 2013
The client for this project is a structural and civil engineering firm called Matrix New World, who recently joined forces in merging with Stevens Institute of Technology. The following project is a proposal for their new headquarters in suburban New Jersey. In highlighting the merger between the two parties this design revolves around contrast, between the structural rustic aspect of Matrix and the modernity of the Institute of Technology, by exposing the architectural I-beams in clean flat ceilings and by using structural shapes with more modern materiality and applications. Bringing these two different principles into one design forms a feeling of juxtaposition that would unexpectedly create a cohesive and harmonious design.

Salvatore Ferragamo - Retail Redesign
This salvatore ferragamo retail proposal aims to flip the usual function of a fashion runway from portraying fashion to using these lit paths as circulation vectors for consumers. Therefore, instead of the fashion being surrounded by the audience, The audience will be surrounded by the designer’s merchandise. Continuous luminous pathways lead the user through the space from the entrance to different merchandise areas on both levels of the space. Aligned with the strips of light are suspended reflective metal structures making the lit surfaces traveling from the floors to the walls seem endless. Hidden above the suspended pieces are adjustable track heads functioning to accentuate the merchandise in the space with maximum flexibility in aiming and directing due to the grid applied to the design.

INHABIT Artist Community
Awarded Most Ambitious Project and 1st Runner Up at the American University in Dubai (AUD) Senior Showcase - 2012
The following project was developed as a senior design project during my BFA course at the American University in Dubai. It comprised of a full renovation of an existing building in the United Arab Emirates. INHABIT is an artist community in Dubai with the main objective of bringing all types of arts and talents together under one roof; joining fine arts with photography, music, cinematography, sculpture and many more to create one entity representing art and artists in the UAE.
25
26
INHABIT Artist Community
The redesigned building will incorporate a range of areas specifically designed to serve the different purposes and usages intended, as well as space requirements. These spaces include; an auditorium, art studios, filming and recording studios, lounge area, exhibition halls and more. INHABIT will also serve as an institution where different art courses and workshops will be offered to all levels of users. The proposed design concept consists of a compilation of different aspects and elements coming together to create challenging and fresh design solutions. A skeletal angular system creating complex exterior structures while the interior is inspired by simplified forms of graffiti art derived from the Bohemian lifestyle which then becomes the essence of INHABIT.

AUD Student Lounge Redesign
The following is an approved proposal of the redesign of the student lounge at the American University of Dubai (AUD) after being personally selected by AUD’s Dean of Student Affairs for this project. Due to the limited budget, the main design solutions revolved around utilizing inexpensive materials, such as paint, and re-using existing furniture to revamp this space.

Matrix + Stevens: Daylighting Design
In redesigning Matrix New World and Stevens Institute of Technology’s office space, this design proposes solutions and approaches to daylight function and control within the space.
The overall space organization concept revolves around an open layout allowing for opportunities of flexible spaces and positive interaction between the different types of users of the space. In response to the client’s requirements concerning flexible spaces, retractable PVC sheet walls have been introduced to allow for maximum options of space organization.

Since the space is on the last floor of the building, a fully glazed ceiling formed by a triangular Smart Glass pattern rests on top of the proposed layout. Smart Glass allow for controlling the amount of daylight entering the building, reacting to and communicating with the array of daylight sensors within the space. 7AM

Oppositio
Awarded AUD Best Interior Design Studio Project - Second Place - 2011
‘Oppositio’ is a residential proposal project with a focus on universal design. It required us to work in a group to design a house for a family where the husband is hearing-impaired, the wife is in a wheelchair and the two sons are healthy. ‘Oppositio’ means juxtapose in English language. the main concept of the design revoloves around the contrast created between the complex exterior and the simple interior of the house. Another main design element in the architecture of the project is be the uninterrupted form, created by the ramp leading to the entrance and continuing to shape the walls and roof of the house. This project was chosen to enter a competition “Best I.D. Studio Project” by the Department of Interior Design at the American University in Dubai and won second place.

Custom Design Luminaire
The following fixture was designed during the course ‘Luminaire Design’ at NYSID. We were asked to propose a design using a re-usable found material and then create a mock-up of the proposed design. My design comprised of re-using the standard 18”x18”x18” cardboard box to create a custom light fixture by cutting out linear sections from the box, allowing light leaks.

JCBA’s ‘Cape Schanck House’ Autodesk Revit remodeling and rendering
Autodesk Revit Architecture, a BIM solution, was used to digitally model an existing piece of architecture; Jackson Clements Burrows’ ‘Cape Schanck House’. This software enabled us to extract architectural drawings, schedules and 3D views. This project also required designing one of the interior spaces within and creating rendered exterior and interior views.

Residential Loft
Relux Pro 3D modeling, photometric calculations and rendering
The Following Project consisted of designing an residential space using Relux Pro to insert real lighting fixtures, create Pseudo color diagrams to study the distribution of light in specific areas, and also generate rendered views of the designed space. The Residential Loft benefits from a split-level to create a separation between the dining + kitchen area and the bedroom + living area while leaving the open layout intact.
