All youth under the age of 22 attending the National Junior Holstein Convention must complete the following forms: CONVENTION PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT FOR JUNIORS

MEDICAL CONSENT FORM FOR JUNIORS

To be eligible to participate at the National Holstein Convention and in any Convention-sponsored or related activities, all Junior registrants must sign this Agreement and abide by the forms and rules included in this agreement. Failure to honor any one of these rules may subject registrant to immediate revocation of Convention participation and of the opportunity to participate in Convention-related or sponsored activities and events. The following rules apply to all Junior participants: 1. Participants must demonstrate good citizenship and adhere to the highest standards of conduct at all times. 2. No participant shall engage in any behavior prohibited by national, state or local laws. 3. At all Convention-related activities and events, including the time in transit, the rules of conduct specified by adult chaperones and advisors must be observed. 4. All participants acknowledge and accept the right of the host state Junior Program Committee and the board of directors of the host state and Holstein Association USA, Inc. and their staff, adult advisors and chaperones to establish and enforce rules for Convention participation and for all Convention-related activities and events. 5. For purposes of this Agreement, the Chairman of the host state Junior Program Committee shall have responsibility, with other representatives appointed by him/her or by the host State Association, to oversee the fair application and enforcement of the rules for Junior participants, in accordance with these procedures: a. Explain the alleged violation and present evidence of the violation to the reported violator. b. Provide the reported violator an opportunity to respond to the allegations. c. Therefore, it shall be the sole discretion of the representative group to decide if the allegations are substantiated and determine an appropriate penalty, which may include revocation of Convention participation privileges and a report of the violations to the National and State Associations. 6. Participant and his/her parents/guardians accept financial responsibility for the cost of the enforcement of the agreement and of any damage to persons or property caused by the participant. 7. The use or possession of any alcoholic beverage or controlled substance is STRICTLY PROHIBITED. 8. New York welcomes youth with entertainment starring renowned professional actress/ventriloquist, comedian, Sylvia Fletcher, who will dazzle you with her amazing talent, lively unforgettable characters, inanimate objects, and voice illusions that will lure audiences into her hilarious and intriguing world of comedy. Get ready for a fun-filled evening and enjoy the hearty pasta bar.

TUESDAY, JUNE 28 PRECONVENTION TOUR 1:

Maple Downs/Joleanna/Ovaltop $50 per person • depart 6:30 a.m., return 6 p.m. (Approx. 1 hr 15 min bus ride to Maple Downs, 1 hr 45 min bus ride back) (max 50)

Start your convention with famous farms and famous cows! The Atlee cow family originates from Maple Downs Farms, the home of the Lloyd family and our first tour stop. Our next stop is with the Johnson family and Joleanna Holsteins - the home of the Rain cow family, numerous excellent cows, All New York and All-American nominations. Our last stop is with the Wolfe family at Ovaltop Holsteins and includes food, family, and cows! The Wolfe family will host the pre-convention picnic while showing off their famous high type, high producing cows.

DAY - TUESDAY, JULY 9

PRECONVENTION TOUR 2:

Cooperstown/Ovaltop $50 per person • depart 7 a.m., return 6 p.m. (Approx. 2 hr bus ride to Cooperstown, 1 hr 45 min bus ride back) (max 100)

Embark on a journey to “America’s Most Perfect Village.” Cooperstown, NY is home to the nation’s favorite pastime as well as several upstate New York attractions that capture the spirit of this beautiful region. You can spend the day shopping, strolling the streets, and/or visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame ($23 adults, $15 Seniors, $12 ages 7 to 12, and free under 7), The Farmers Museum ($12.00 adults, $10.50 Seniors, $7.00 7 to 12, and free under 7), and or the Fenimore Art Museum ($12 adults/children 13+, Seniors $12, and free for those under 13). This tour culminates with the preconvention picnic at Ovaltop Holsteins. Planning to drive yourself to Ovaltop? Ticket pre-purchase is required for lunch at Ovaltop Holsteins. Reserve your tickets and pick them up at the farm that day.

Luncheon for Juniors & Adults $15 per person • 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. The “Brunch for Lunch” highlights will be a French Toast Bake with New York Maple Syrup, Quiche, and New York Apple Crisp.

Junior Dance & Ice Cream Social $15 per person • 7:30 – 10 p.m. A charming evening of dancing and pizza ending with award winning local ice cream sundaes. A perfect night to get to know juniors from across the country.

Here is your chance to visit five widely recognized Holstein breeding herds, all within 45 minutes of convention headquarters. Travel to Ideal Dairy Farms, operated by the Dickinson and Getty families, in Hudson Falls, NY, home of the Cookiecutter, Quiet-Brook-D and Main Drag prefixes. Liddleholme Holsteins is the high type tie stall herd boasting deep pedigrees for Adam & Nicole Liddle’s family. A fabulous BBQ will be served at Kings-Ransom Farm where tour participants can view the King family’s herd and new milk processing plant. Just five minutes away are the other Bacon Hill area herds of Welcome Stock Farm, operated by the William Peck family, and Clear Echo Farm, owned by Kevin & Carrie Peck. Deep cow families abound on this fun-filled, informative day! TOUR 2: Saratoga Battlefield and

McMahon Thoroughbreds $35 per person • depart 8 a.m., return 4 p.m. (Approx. 20 min bus ride, max 100)

This tour will feature a significant piece of American Revolutionary War history, and what Saratoga is known for – thoroughbred horses. The tour of the Saratoga Battlefield, which is a National Park, overlooks the Hudson River Valley with beautiful views of farmland along with the Green Mountains of Vermont. The Battle of Saratoga of course is known as “The Turning Point of the American Revolution.” The guided tour will take you through the steps Revolutionary War soldiers endured to win this significant battle and change American history. The second segment of the tour will be a visit to McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds. This is a large family owned and operated Thoroughbred breeding operation. The McMahon family has been instrumental in developing New York bred thoroughbreds, the most famous being 2003 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, “Funny Cide.” The tour will feature opportunities to learn about equine marketing, breeding programs, and the success of New York Bred incentive programs offered to thoroughbred breeders in the state. Lunch will be included at Kings-Ransom Farm. TOUR 3: Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom $35 per person • buses load 9 a.m., return 4:00 p.m. (30 min bus ride)

Some of the fastest, tallest, wildest, gut-wrenchingest rides in the country – including a few record breakers. Ready to get wet and wild? From large pools and lazy rivers to multipassenger rafting adventures and speed slides, you’ll find water rides and experiences for everyone in your crew. If your stomach can handle it, a meal voucher is included.

Family Night at Saratoga Polo Club $25 per person • buses begin departing 4:30 p.m. (ongoing shuttle, Polo Club is approx. 5 min from convention center) (max 600)

Family Night will feature a polo match at one of the oldest polo clubs in the nation. Dinner overlooking the magnificent polo fields will include fare sure to tantalize everyone’s taste buds with a pasta station, BBQ station, bistro station and hot dog station. Lawn games will be available for the young and young at heart or simply enjoy the live music throughout the night. The exciting two chukker polo match will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and will include an opportunity for everyone to take part in a traditional “divot stomp!” Following the match, polo players will be available for photos during a unique meet and greet experience.

Historical Talk “Cradle of the Breed” No tickets required • 2-3 p.m.

Participants may choose one or both of the Saratoga tours below. The bus will return to the Hilton by 11:45 a.m. from the morning tour. Feel free to stroll Broadway to find lunch on your own and still make the 2 p.m. tour in the afternoon. TOUR 1: Oklahoma Training Track Walking Tour

and Saratoga Racing Museum $15 per person • Bus departs 8:00 a.m. (5 min bus ride, max 50)

A 90-minute walking tour of the beautiful and historic Oklahoma track, located across the street from the Saratoga Race Course. Ticket includes entrance to the Saratoga Racing Museum at the conclusion of the tour. Sturdy walking shoes are suggested. Must be over 10 years old. TOUR 2: Health, History and Houses Tour $15 per person • Bus departs 1:45 p.m. (max 100)

This 90-minute bus tour, led by expert and entertaining tour guides “Dave and Charlie,” will feature the city of Saratoga Springs. Participants will see Victorian architecture, Congress Park, Saratoga Race Track, Broadway, and will be able to taste test two world-famous mineral springs. This tour will entertain and educate participants of how Saratoga Springs formed, grew, and evolved to be a top resort location in 19th century America.

Luncheon for Juniors & Adults $15 per person • 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Choose from a variety of deli sandwiches including chicken, ham and tuna salad. Make sure you try the famous original potato chip – “Saratoga Chips!”

Presale Meal $25 per person • 5 – 7 p.m. Some people consider Beef on Weck (thinly sliced slow-roasted rare roast beef piled high) on a freshly baked kummelweck roll, the “Best Roast Beef Sandwich in America!” Enjoy this Western New York original along with bratwurst, beans, and a variety of salads and dessert. Both the dinner and sale will take place at the convention headquarters. Presale meal tickets will not be sold on site.

Saratoga “Strike Zone” $15 per person • 7 – 10 p.m. (ongoing shuttle, 5 min bus ride)

Saratoga Strike Zone has something for everyone: bowl with a state of the art light and sound show, play in the redemption arcade which offers tons of games, take a ride in the bumper cars or experience the Ballocity ball pit. Meal voucher included. So much to do under one roof!

New York’s Holstein roots run deep - right to the very introduction of our beloved breed to North America. Join Dr. Milton C. Sernett as he chronicles Gerrit Smith Miller and the first successful breeding herd of Holsteins in North America the Kriemhild Herd. Journey back in time to learn about his management, breeding and recording programs. Dr. Sernett grew up in Iowa farm country. He taught history at Syracuse University for thirty years, retiring in 2005. The author of eight books and many articles on topics in American history, Dr. Sernett became interested in the story of Gerrit Smith Miller and his historic Kriemhild Herd as a volunteer with the Town of Smithfield Steward Program.

New York State Wine Tasting $9 per person • 3 - 4:30 p.m. Women for New York State Wines is a non-profit, volunteer organization that promotes only New York State wines and grape juice. Started 30+ years ago by a small group of women, who were wives of grapes growers, when in the early 70’s the market for grapes was very depressed. Taste wines from all of New York’s wine regions – Long Island, Hudson River, Finger Lakes, Lake Erie and in between. There will be a variety of red, dry white, and semi–sweet wines. Includes a souvenir wine glass. Must be over 21.

Junior Awards Banquet $25 per person • 12:30 – 4:00 p.m. After a charming week in historic Saratoga sit down and enjoy the farewell banquet. Guest speaker, Corey Geiger, will motivate us in his keynote address “Run through Doors and Break Down Walls.” Life is more than money. It’s about growing people. Servant leaders have helped you grow as a person and the Holstein Association Junior Programs have given us all life-long skills. Corey’s journey has taken him from Holstein youth to DJM Finalist; he is currently serving on Holstein USA Board of Directors and working as Managing Editor of Hoard’s Dairyman. Enjoy a meal of Pan Seared Chicken Breast, Mashed Potatoes, and Decadent Chocolate Cake.

Cocktail Reception and Adult Banquet $45 per person • 5 p.m. - midnight Join fellow Holstein breeders for a Musically Magical evening as we close out the National Convention with New York Charm. Our evening will start with a network reception serenaded by an A Cappella group from Cornell University. A magical dinner of New York Strip Steak or Salmon will be followed by the presentation of the Holstein Association USA Distinguished Young Breeder, Elite Breeder, and Distinguished Leadership Awards. The evening will continue with dancing and convention networking featuring a New York band favorite – The Refrigerators. Please join us for a night to remember!

Double M Rodeo $20 per person • buses load 6:45 p.m.,

return via ongoing shuttle by 11:00 p.m. (15 min bus ride)

Get your boots and buckles on and come out for a “Rootin’ – Tootin’” good time at the Double M Rodeo. A night filled with finger-lickin’ good BBQ, a heart-stopping rodeo and a boot stomping dance.
