SUMMARY

There are very few parts of the country with the rich recreational resources of the Flathead Valley. A morning water ski in gin clear water, an afternoon of dry-fly fishing, followed by an exquisite meal at one of several fine bistros: this is just one example of a way to relish a day in the Flathead. Downhill skiing, endless wilderness access, and proximity to Glacier National Park complement the list as well.

For several decades now, Flathead Lake’s shores have become known worldwide for growing exceptional cherries. Among the top-tier orchards in the area is Sunset Vista Orchard, which currently cultivates Ranier, Skeena, and Sweetheart varieties.

• Ranier: The highest-value cherry and known for its blush color and super sweet flavor. This variety is well suited for the area with solid yields most years.

• Skeena: A large variety with delicious flavor and high production, Skeena cherries are known for their excellent quality, and they ship and keep very well.

• Sweetheart: This variety ripens last and is the latest season cherry and the last fresh cherries on the market.
