STARRING PREMIER ANGUS FEMALES FROM PREMIER ANGUS BREEDERS ROBBIE D. BEAN 2944 RS CR 3425, Brashear, TX 75420 903-571-7950 Dear Angus Breeders: The Stars of Texas Female Sale is a tremendous success story. The credit for this achievement goes to our consignors who, each year, select animals from the very top end of their herds to offer in this great event. I think that as you evaluate the offering for this year’s “Stars” you will agree that we have taken our place among the elite sales in the country. Seldom do you study a catalog and find the depth of quality that comprises this year’s offering. Congratulations consignors on this accomplishment. The pregnancies read like a “who’s who” of the Angus business. The “Queenie” bloodline has produced sale toppers in many of the nation’s elite production sales. We have six members of that family for you to choose from. The selection includes a Rampage out of the matriarch Queenie 70527, a Journey out of Queenie X104 and a Rampage out of Queenie Y126. Add to that a pregnancy by Rapture out of Basin Lass 1663, a Journey out of a stunning daughter of EXAR Rita U049, a Rampage out of Basin Lucy 1037 (the $47,500 half interest top selling female in last year’s Stars) and a Payweight 1682 out of the $52,000 half interest Deer Valley Blackcap 3172, just to name a few. If proven donors are more in your wheelhouse, you take no step backward here. We offer the highest $B female in the sale, Basin Lucy 4261 that is a Denver out of the $200,000 valued Basin Lucy 1022 (who if a full brother to Basin Yuma) and an own daughter of the immortal Basin Lucy 3829 sired by Consensus. Dig a little deeper and you will find a set of open heifers that are second to none. Highlights are a Journey out of the number one $B daughter of 643T, a Ten X out of the dam to Lone Star Advantage E753, who is the number two $B female in the offering and a truly outcross pedigree in a Generation out of a granddaughter of 178E. If you’re still studying, and you should be, consider Lots 42-46. All are impeccable in there phenotype, are sired by breed leaders and are carrying the service of some of the most highly used service sires in the industry. And if your needs require pair cattle, we did not let you down here either. We begin with an own daughter of the now deceased Basin Lucy 3829 and close out with a stellar group of pairs that will add to the bottom line of any operation. Now that you have studied the offering, wouldn’t you agree that this is one of the strongest sets of females you have ever seen offered anywhere? If so, make plans to attend this spectacular edition of the “Stars of Texas” in beautiful Fort Worth, Texas at noon on Saturday, January 21, 2017. You don’t want to miss this one. Regards,
Robbie D. Bean Sale Manager

THE WEIGHT GAIN IS REAL. Go ahead, blink.
A deworming with LONGRANGE (eprinomectin) can help keep parasites from eating into your profits. ®
If you used a conventional dewormer like CYDECTIN® (moxidectin), SAFE-GUARD® (fenbendazole) or in combination, your cattle are probably already reinfected with parasites. That’s because conventional dewormers only last 14 to 42 days and SAFE-GUARD has no persistent effect. Only LONGRANGE delivers up to 150 days of parasite control in a single treatment.1,2 When you look at the benefits of season-long parasite control with LONGRANGE – you’ll see you have a lot to gain.
Use LONGRANGE on your cow/calf operation and see the difference for yourself.

EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCE (EPD), is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I”, and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE. EPDs are enhanced by genomic profiles generated by GeneSeek and Zoetis, when applicable. $Value Indexes, are multi-trait selection indexes, expressed in dollars per head, to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment.
PRODUCTION
CARCASS
• • • •
$VALUE INDEXES
•
• • •
CALVING EASE DIRECT (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. BIRTH WEIGHT EPD (BW EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires. WEANING WEIGHT EPD (WW EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. YEARLING WEIGHT EPD (YW EPD), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. RESIDUAL AVERAGE DAILY GAIN (RADG), expressed in pounds per day, is a predictor of a sire’s genetic ability for postweaning gain in future progeny compared to that of other sires, given a constant amount of feed consumed. YEARLING HEIGHT EPD (YH), is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling height, expressed in inches, compared to the that of other sires. SCROTAL CIRCUMFERENCE EPD (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires. DOCILITY (DOC), is expressed as a difference in yearling cattle temperament, with a higher value indicating more favorable docility. It predicts the average difference of progeny from a sire in comparison with another sire’s calves. In herds where temperament problems are not an issue, this expected difference would not be realized.
MATERNAL
• •
MATERNAL MILK EPD (MILK), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability. COW ENERGY VALUE ($EN), expressed in dollars savings per cow per year, assesses differences in cow energy requirements as an expected dollar savings difference in daughters of sires. A larger value is more favorable when comparing two animals (more dollars saved on feed energy expenses). Components for computing the cow $EN savings difference include lactation energy requirements and energy costs associated with differences in mature cow size.
• • • •
CARCASS WEIGHT EPD (CW), expressed in pounds is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. MARBLING EPD (MARB), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. RIBEYE AREA EPD (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. FAT THICKNESS EPD (FAT), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
$Value indexes are multi-trait selection indexes, expressed in dollars per head, to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment. WEANED CALF VALUE ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk, and mature cow size. FEEDLOT VALUE ($F), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning merit compared to progeny of other sires. GRID VALUE ($G), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of other sires. BEEF VALUE ($B), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin) should be given only by subcutaneous injection in front of the shoulder at the recommended dosage level of 1 mg eprinomectin per kg body weight (1 mL per 110 lb body weight). WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS Withdrawal Periods and Residue Warnings Animals intended for human consumption must not be slaughtered within 48 days of the last treatment. This drug product is not approved for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, including dry dairy cows. Use in these cattle may cause drug residues in milk and/or in calves born to these cows. A withdrawal period has not been established for pre-ruminating calves. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal. Animal Safety Warnings and Precautions The product is likely to cause tissue damage at the site of injection, including possible granulomas and necrosis. These reactions have disappeared without treatment. Local tissue reaction may result in trim loss of edible tissue at slaughter. Observe cattle for injection site reactions. If injection site reactions are suspected, consult your veterinarian. This product is not for intravenous or intramuscular use. Protect product from light. LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin) has been developed specifically for use in cattle only. This product should not be used in other animal species. When to Treat Cattle with Grubs LONGRANGE effectively controls all stages of cattle grubs. However, proper timing of treatment is important. For the most effective results, cattle should be treated as soon as possible after the end of the heel fly (warble fly) season. Environmental Hazards Not for use in cattle managed in feedlots or under intensive rotational grazing because the environmental impact has not been evaluated for these scenarios. Other Warnings: Underdosing and/or subtherapeutic concentrations of extended-release anthelmintic products may encourage the development of parasite resistance. It is recommended that parasite resistance be monitored following the use of any anthelmintic with the use of a fecal egg count reduction test program. TARGET ANIMAL SAFETY Clinical studies have demonstrated the wide margin of safety of LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin). Overdosing at 3 to 5 times the recommended dose resulted in a statistically significant reduction in average weight gain when compared to the group tested at label dose. Treatment-related lesions observed in most cattle administered the product included swelling, hyperemia, or necrosis in the subcutaneous tissue of the skin. The administration of LONGRANGE at 3 times the recommended therapeutic dose had no adverse reproductive effects on beef cows at all stages of breeding or pregnancy or on their calves. Not for use in bulls, as reproductive safety testing has not been conducted in males intended for breeding or actively breeding. Not for use in calves less than 3 months of age because safety testing has not been conducted in calves less than 3 months of age. STORAGE Store at 77° F (25° C) with excursions between 59° and 86° F (15° and 30° C). Protect from light. Made in Canada. Manufactured for Merial, Inc., Duluth, GA, USA. Offered by Hoofstock Genetics. Hoofstock Genetics will implant the donation embryos free of charge if implanted at the Hoofstock facilities or at the purchaser’s ranch while other embryo or flush work is performed. In 2010, the Texas Angus Association (TAA) began a tradition of auctioning a donation heifer at the annual banquet to benefit Texas Angus youth. Participation in this program provides Texas Junior Angus Association (TJAA) members incentive to compete with their heifers at the Fort Worth Stock Show, as the top two finishers who are members in good standing of the TJAA qualify for a scholarship awarded by the TAA Endowment Scholarship Fund, recently renamed the Raymond Moore Memorial Endowment Scholarship Fund. This year we are pleased to offer five embryo packages to benefit the Raymond Moore Memorial Endowment Scholarship Fund.
