Dear Friends and Fellow Cattle Producers, We are excited to be hosting the Third Annual Strait-Hefte Tried & True Production Sale along with Hefte Ranch.

We are so appreciative of the support this sale and our Santa Gertrudis genetics have received. We continually seek to improve our cow herd and in turn offer these genetics to our customers. This year’s sale offering is highly influenced by SR Genesis 75/3 and KR Catalyst 531/15 genetics while many of the females have been artificially inseminated to the SR MPACT 30/F2 bull who is owned with Vesper Ranches. We were very happy with the performance of our 2018/2019 born bulls and are pleased to offer some of the best bulls we have ever raised in this year’s sale. Our family has been blessed with the opportunity to raise Santa Gertrudis cattle for nearly 70 years in South Texas. We started using Santa Gertrudis genetics in our commercial cattle operation in the 1950’s and began transitioning to a seedstock operation in the 1990’s. We are proud that we now have fifth generation Santa Gertrudis breeders in our family. Avery, Arden, Piper and Nellie have all developed an interest in Santa Gertrudis cattle. Additionally, we have a great team at Strait Ranches consisting of Kirt Forsythe, Eddie Gomez and San Juana Guerrero. We are very thankful for their hard work and dedication. Dear Friends, 2020 has been a challenging and difficult year to say the least. One bright spot for us in this crazy year has been the

quality of the cattle we are producing here at Hefte Ranch. Their performance on gain test, on ultrasound scans, and in the pasture has exceeded our expectations. Investments we have made in building our herd, focusing on fertility and improving performance over the past few years are really beginning to pay off. Our 2020 Strait-Hefte Tried & True Production Sale offering is our best yet! It is certainly hard to let some of these new herd sire prospects and productive females leave the ranch, but we feel strongly about sharing our Hefte Ranch genetics and making sure that cattle with our brand on their hip will go out and make us proud. We are also very grateful for our breed association, its leadership, and its members. The long-term planning and forward thinking that have placed our breed in a position of high demand in the cattle industry are a testament to the power of teamwork and following a progressive vision. Lot 1 SR 96/18 is an own daughter of KR Catalyst 531/15 out of the SR 20/0 donor cow. SR 20/0 has a 347-day average calving interval after 9 calves and is an own daughter of the PCR Avalanche 95/5. SR 20/0 is also the dam of SR 139/6 heifer who was purchased for $15,000 by Grandview Farms in the first Tried and True Sale as well as Avery Strait’s SR 107/19 “EZ” show heifer. SR 96/18 is an elite female not only in the Strait Ranches herd but entire breed as she combines a Top 1% MARB ranking with a Top 2% REA ranking. Her marbling EPD of 0.46 almost assures her offspring will rank in the Top 1% for this trait. This heifer was AI’ed to SR MPACT 30/F2, the high selling bull at the 2019 Tried & True Production Sale where 1/2 interest was sold to Vesper Ranch for $46,000, and she was then exposed to our young sire KR 1582/17. Hefte Ranch G22 is an impressive KR 191/13 daughter out of Hefte Ranch D140ET. We are currently using D140ETâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s first calf, Hefte Ranch F14 as one of our heifer bulls. Hefte Ranch D140ET is sired by Harco 1323 and out of a CVF 2022 daughter, Briggs 039/5. This matriarch cow, Briggs 039/5, has been a fixture in our herd and was deemed worthy to be one of our first donor cows. At 15 years of age she is still in our herd annually producing topnotch calves. Hefte Ranch G22 is a great combination of Lot 4 several extremely productive bloodlines featuring King Ranch, Briggs and Harris. This dark red, polled female shares the same bloodlines as the Hefte Ranch G22 and G67 heifers. Her dam, Hefte Ranch D33, is a natural daughter of Briggs 039/5. D33 has a calving interval of 348 days with three calves on the ground. Hefte Ranch D64 scanned a 5.32%IMF with a REA/ cwt of 1.14 directly off pasture with no grain supplementation. She sells bred to Hefte Ranch F82, a fancy son of Red Doc 3162. The combination of Red Doc 3162 crossed with KR 191/13 has produced exceptional results. We expect the calf of this donor quality female to be quite impressive.

Lot 6 Donor alert! This KR 191/13 daughter combines fertility, longevity, carcass and growth all in one pretty, dark cherry-red package. This heifer scanned 5.28%IMF with .19 BF and 1.15 REA/cwt directly off grass with no grain supplementation. She had an adjusted WW of 716 lbs and ratioed at 106 for WW. Her young dam, Hefte Ranch D137ET, an ET daughter of Briggs 039/5, has an amazing MPPA of 106.57 and a calving interval of 342 days with three calves on the ground! Also impressive on paper, take a look at G67’s growth and carcass EPDs. AI’ed to Hefte Ranch F19 Pure Swagger, who sold at this sale last year to Buena Vida Cattle Co., with a calf due in February 2021. It is so hard to let this heifer go, we can’t wait to see the calf that results from this combination of productive bloodlines!

Strait Ranches was honored to have the opportunity to purchase the dam of these heifers, Olivarez 428, from longtime Santa Gertrudis breeder Olivarez Ranches. Miguel Olivarez bought his first two Santa Gertrudis bulls in 1950 and was assigned herd number #439 by SGBI. In 1979 Olivarez Ranches began gain testing their cattle and continue to collect extensive data on their cattle today. This group of heifers is sired by our polled, King Ranch bred herd sire, KR 1582/17. We were appreciative of the opportunity to add this bull to our program considering his excellent phenotype and balanced EPD profile with 9 EPDs ranking in the Top 30%. KR 1582/17 is the service sire of many of the lots being offered in this sale and we thought it was important to let you see some of his offspring. LJV 7/184 is a full sibling to Swannderosa Ranch’s herd sire LJV 6/167. Larry Sidebottom of Lazy JV purchased SR 710 from us after he won his division on the Rio Grande Valley Beef Improvement Test and he held a spot on multiple trait leader lists for years. We were very grateful that Mr. Sidebottom later sold us the LJV Mason 0/72 bull. SR 141/19 has 8 EPDs ranking in the Top 10% including a Top 1% REA of 0.22.

The KR Catalyst/SR Genesis cross also produced CB Nitro 46/18 who was purchased by Cotton Branch Plantation for $38,000 last year and is now owned by Harris Farms. SR 142/19 has a strong EPD profile with 6 traits ranking in the Top 15% including a Top 1% MARB EPD of 0.32. Strait Ranches has submitted DNA to SGBI on this heifer.

Semen Offering

Lot 47 Strait Ranches has sold no semen on the LJV Mason 0/72 bull since the 2018 Tried & True Production Sale. At 10 years of age Strait Ranches is still actively breeding the LJV Mason 0/72. He is a proven producer of top performing cattle whether it be on gain test, in the show ring or in the pasture. LJV Mason 0/72 is the sire of 2020 National Champion Santa Gertrudis Female, SR Hazel 23/7, as well as sire of proven donor and 2015 National Junior Champion Santa Gertrudis Female, SR 60/3 “Miss Yancey”, who was shown by Wyatt Nelson. SR 60/3 heavily influenced the Quail Valley Farms’ program and now resides at Vesper Ranch in Cotulla, Texas. Quail Valley Farms, Harris Farms, Briggs Ranches, Vesper Ranch and others have used LJV Mason 0/72 daughters in their embryo transfer programs. Strait Ranches is currently using three LJV Mason 0/72 sons as herd sires: SR Genesis 75/3, SR 27/6, and SR 128/6. In 2018, SR 42/7 “Lucchese”, a son of LJV Mason 0/72 purchased by B Square, was Strait Ranches’ high selling bull consignment. With 6 EPDs ranking in the Top 10% LJV Mason 0/72 has an extremely balanced EPD profile highlighted by his Top 1% REA EPD of 0.23. Lot 48 Vesper Ranch purchased 50% interest and 50% possession in SR MPACT 30/F2 from Strait Ranches in the 2019 Tried and True Production Sale for $46,000. No semen has been sold to date. SR MPACT 30/F2 is an ET son of Harris 257/4 “Cherokee Grand Canyon” owned by Cherokee Ranch and out of the SR Arkoma 30/0 donor cow making him a maternal brother to SR Genesis 75/3, Korban Cattle’s $30,000 SR 30/ F3 donor, SR Catalyst Gem 13/18 as well as Lot 50 in this year’s sale, SR 4/19. His sire, Harris 257/4, had excellent yearling scan data with a %IMF of 5.40 and a 13.00 REA (1.17 REA/cwt). His dam, SR Arkoma 30/0, is the backbone of the Strait Ranches operation due to the consistency of her offspring. Today, SR Arkoma 30/0 has an average calving interval of 354 days after 9 natural calves. SR MPACT 30/F2 caught our attention as a calf due to his striking phenotype and then demanded our attention after we reviewed his yearling gain test and scan data: 4.42 ADG, 14.61 Adjusted REA (1.18 REA/cwt), 6.03 Adjusted %IMF, and .44 BF. Lot 51 Can you say POUNDS PAY! This KR 191/13 son weaned off his dam pressing down the scales at 820lbs! But wait there is more… G70’s dam is a moderate, deep-bodied cow that weighed 1120 lbs when we weaned him off, all the while she kept a BCS of 5 and was bred back on time. How many cows do you have that wean off 73% of their body weight? Hefte Ranch G70 did not slack on his performance after weaning, he went on to scan 4.78 IMF with a 16.12 REA and pressed down the scales again at 1380 lbs as a yearling. He knocks it out of the park on paper also, check out his solid EPDs and indexes. G70 is an easy fleshing, heavy muscled, extremely gentle brute that, despite being heavy, is not a big and tall bull. Impressed by his performance, we used Hefte Ranch G70 on a set of cows and are extremely excited to see how his offspring perform in our program. We are retaining a 50% semen interest in this bull and look forward to working with his buyer to market this bull as a premier Santa Gertrudis herd sire. Docility Score of 1

All we can say is “BIG Gutted BIG Butted”! We stole this expression from the great Leo Casas and it is a description that fits G116 so well. This Red Doc 5461 son has so much guts, depth and spring of rib you almost miss how much muscle he has. G116 scanned a 15.71 REA and a 5.15 %IMF, if we would have been paying attention, we would have used this bull this breeding season. His dam, Hefte Ranch Z58 has an impressive 351 day calving interval after six calves. Great sheath, great look and proven pedigree make G116 a top choice in our opinion. Hefte Ranch G17 is a special bull here at Hefte Ranch. He was the very first KR 191/13 progeny to hit the ground for us and what a way to start! He is gentle, dark red, good boned, heavy muscled, and did I mention 60 lb birthweight? Yes, you read that correctly 60lbs! This was not a complete surprise to us though, because G17’s dam, Harris Farms 37/8 is notorious for having short gestations (calves first every year), incredible calving intervals (360 days after 10 calves), and incredibly low birthweight calves. G17 was used here on Hefte Ranch in Agua Dulce where he serviced and successfully bred cows, then we brought him back to Hondo where he bred first calf heifers for us, all the while holding his condition. This KR 191/13 son is the first bull that we have ever raised to be both the #1 Marbling bull and the #1 REA/CWT bull on a Hefte Ranch gain test. Not too many bulls can claim that honor, especially in such an incredibly competitive setting. After we examined G29â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 5.57%IMF and 1.28 REA/CWT!, we tracked down his dam, Hefte Ranch W44 and realized as an 11-yearold cow she has had 9 calves with an incredible 371-day calving interval. Needless to say, we felt compelled to use Hefte Ranch G29 on a handful of open heifers before letting him go. ANNOUNCEMENTS Any changes from the information of any kind in this catalog will be provided in a sale day supplement sheet or announced from the auction block and such information shall take precedence over cataloged information. BREEDING GUARANTEE All animals are guaranteed to be breeders with the exception of: a) calves under 12 months of age; b) animals shown by purchaser after sale in which the guarantee (if any) shall be between the seller and the buyer; c) injury or disease occurring after the sale; d) gross negligence or willful misconduct on the part of the purchaser; e) death by any reason. Any bull which settles cows by natural service and passes a fertility test made by competent veterinarians, mutually agreed upon by the buyer and seller, during any six month period of trial (provided for in paragraph 2 of the section of these sales terms and conditions entitled “Options and Privileges of Return or Adjustment”) shall be considered a breeder. All partial interest bulls are guaranteed to produce freezable quality semen. Safe in calf females have been examined by competent personnel and are so guaranteed. Exposed females have been exposed but are not guaranteed to be safe in calf. Open females have not been served and are so guaranteed.

In the event an animal is claimed to be a non-breeder, the animal may be returned to the seller if in good condition and complying with the health requirements of Texas. The seller shall be entitled to a six month trial following the return of the animal in which to prove that the animal is a breeder. If at the end of six months the seller is unable to prove the animal is a breeder, the seller shall at the option of the buyer replace the animal with another of equal value or issue a credit for the initial selling price. If the seller proves the animal to be a breeder, it shall be the obligation of the purchaser to take delivery of the animal and pay all expenses incurred for transportation. If a bull is sold and at a later date proves not to be eligible for registration under association rules, the seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price to the buyer, refund the purchase price or issue a credit for the initial selling price upon the return of the animal to the farm of the seller. If an animal is sold and through DNA is proven to have incorrect parentage as represented by the certificate of registration, and for which the parentage can be determined, the seller shall be obligated to make a satisfactory adjustment on the purchase price to the buyer, refund the purchase price or issue a credit for the initial selling price upon the return of the animal to the farm of the seller. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding on both. Other than the guarantees and warranties stated above, no other warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction. LIABILITY All persons who attend this sale do so at their own risk. The owners, American Marketing Services or any other person connected with the sale assumes no liability, legal or otherwise.

PREGNANCY DETERMINATION The females in this sale noted safe in calf have been determined pregnant by physical palpation. Our best estimate of service sire will be given in the case of the females with both an A.I. sire and a natural breeding sire. OPTIONS AND PRIVILEGES OF RETURN OR ADJUSTMENT All claims for adjustment or refund must be made in writing within six months of the sale date.
