05 | TO ROTATE
FALL 2018 | PROFESSOR JASON CARLOW
THIS PROJECT IS ABOUT DEVELOPING ARCHITECTURAL IDEAS FROM LINGUISTIC CONCEPTS AND TRANSLATING THEM INTO A PHYSICAL SONSTRUCTION. THIS PROJECT FOLLOWS THE CONCEPT OF “TO ROTATE”, A SERIES OF SPATIAL INVESTIGATIONS WENT FORM 2D DRAWINGS TO 3D MODELS TO EXPLORE IT.

06 | MATERIALS FOREST | DESIGN BUILD FALL 2018 | PROFESSOR DANIEL CHAVEZ
THE PROJECT EXPLORES THE IDEA OF MOVING THROUGH A FOREST OF MATERIALS. BEING ASSIGNED THE TASK OF DESIGNING A MATERIALS LIBRARY FOR CAAD STUDENTS, THIS PROJECT STRAYED AWAY FORM THE TYPICAL SHELVING SYSTEMS OF LIBRARIES AND FOCUSED ON EXPLORING NEW WAYS OF DISPLAYING MATERIALSAMPLES. THIS MATERIALS LIBRARY’S METHOD OF CATALOGUING IS INTUITIVE AS IT IS BASED ON THE VISUALS RATHER THAN THE TYPICAL CATALOGUING METHODS.THE HARD MATERIALS LIKE STONE WERE HUNG THROUGH LASER CUT METAL PIECES CALLED “LEVERAGE HOOKS” AS THEY HOOK THE MATERIALS ONTO THE STEEL RODS. THE BASES WERE MADE OUT OF ASH WOOD THAT ARE LAMINATED, SANDED AND FINISHED TO BECOME FULLY POLISHED AND RICH WITH COLOR. 07 | DE PASO
IN COLLABORATION WITH COSENTINO
DEPASO IS A TACTILE AND IMMERSIVE INSTALLATION THAT PAYS HOMAGE TO THE QUALITIES AND VISUAL POETRY OF DEKTON BY COSENTINO. MINIMALISTIC AND PLAYFUL, DEPASO IS AN ARCHITECTURAL STRUCTURE OF CONTRASTING TEXTURES AND EMOTIONS. THE JOURNEY THROUGH DEPASO IS A SENSORIAL EXPERIENCE WHERE ONE COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE SIMPLICITY, VERSATILITY AND TRUTH OF MAN-MADE MATERIAL. *THIS PROJECT WAS DISPLAYED DURING DUBAI DESIGN WEEK IN D3 HABIBA KHALIFA - HAYA EL-MENAWY - HEBA ELIDRISI - HIBA ABDULLE - JUAN ROLDAN - RAND AL DREI - RAWAN ALMAFARJAH

ACCOR HOTELS COMPETITION 2019
SO PLEATS ROOM DESIGN IS INSPIRED BY ISSEY MIYAKE’S PLEATS PLEASE COLLECTION. IT REFLECTS ISSEY MIYAKE’S FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPT THAT “DESIGN IS NOT FOR PHILOSOPHY, BUT FOR LIFE”. THE DESIGN GIVES A FEEL OF LIGHTNESS IN THE SPACE AND ITS EMPHASIZED BY THE USE OF ORGANIC ELEMENTS THAT CREATE A FLOW IN THE SPACE. *IN COLLABORATION WITH RASMIEH SAAD

09 | UPCYCLED
SPRING 2019 | PROFESSOR AMMAR KALO
WHAT? THE BASIS OF THIS RESEARCH IS UPCYCLING WASTE MATERIALS TO CREATE FURNITURE PIECES THAT HAVE A STRONG VISUAL & PHYSICAL IMPACT. HOW? FOAM & ALUMINUM WERE COLLECTED FROM LOCAL INDUSTRIAL AREAS. THE FORM OF THE CHAIR WAS MADE USING WIRE, MESH & FOAM. THE FOAM IS THEN SAND CASTED WITH RECYCLED ALUMINUM. WHY? HIGHLIGHTS THE ESSENCE OF RESEARCHING AND UNDERSTANDING MATERIAL FORMS CREATED BY UNCONVENTIONAL UPCYCLING METHODS & RAISES PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF EMBRACING SUCH RESEARCH.
