a The Next Big Tech Trends for 2021 by randallhunt | Nov 5, 2020 | Randall Hunt, Tech
Plato famously said that necessity was the mother of invention. That has never been more true in the nal stretch of 2020 as we learn to adjust to the new normal. There are very few corners of our environment that haven’t been touched by a drastic need to alter how we interact with others. Many inventions that were progressing anyway are now following a speedier timeline, whereas others are brand-new developments born out of need. While it may be true that the concept of augmented and virtual reality is no longer a novelty, their purposes have expanded beyond gaming and the tourism trade. The need for remote encounters in our everyday lives has been the catalyst for VR/AR technology in other industries, as well. Remote learning, especially in the youth education sector, will see advancements in technology as schools and institutions work to keep their populations safe. This goes hand in
hand with a 5G network that is fast enough to support cloud-based As-A-Service technology such as virtual classrooms and zoom meetings. In addition to classroom environments, medical examinations and diagnoses can be carried out remotely using VR/AR technology. Opticians, for example, will be able to perform VR eye tests remotely using high-de nition cameras. The patient will then be able to browse available lenses with AR technology. The most important advancements will include self-learning algorithms. This concept of computer vision (CV) means having a machine look at an image, understand what it is seeing, spot patterns, and make predictions, such as when to deploy resources like restocking important medical supplies. This is done at a much faster rate of speed than a human is capable of, which is what di erentiates it from image processing in the past. There will also be an increase in data collection with regard to disease and infection rates. This is vital in order to prevent irresponsible control over a potential future spread. With businesses learning to adapt to a remote customer base, the challenge will be to understand the ways human activity will take place online from now on. This includes socially and from a retail perspective, as well as work productivity and recruitment. The 2021 trend will see these tools becoming both more sophisticated and budget-friendly in order to include more organizations.
