Cornhole In Canyon

“Cornhole in Canyon” By: Katie Fox

Southerners have many things they like to do over the weekend during the Summer into Fall. Boating and fishing on the lake, barbecues, get togethers with friends and family. The list is endless. If you live in the Texas Panhandle, you know how those nice and warm Friday nights are. When there’s not a high school football team playing, what else is there to do but gather up your loved ones and play a classic game of cornhole?

On Friday October 2nd, members of the Randall High School Key Club attended an event hosted by the CMN, or Children’s Miracle Network, an organization that donates money and service to local hospitals to help care for the children who are patients by using the donated money to help with bills, recruiting doctors, and buying new equipment. At this gathering on the second, participants enjoyed food, face painting, and the star of the show, a cornhole tournament. Donations were asked of participants as well! Even some of Canyon’s first responders were a part of the fun! Fire Trucks were lined up along the street, and the kids at the event got to see what it was like to sit in a truck. Our gracious Key Club volunteers were asked to set up tables, and attend the “kids zone” during the event.

One such volunteer, Alex Collins, a senior at Randall High School and also a senior class representative, attended the tournament. Collins, along with other student volunteers, watched the kids zone and handed out goodies, and hung out with the children a part of the Miracle Network. When asked what his favorite part of the event was, Alex said, “I had an absolute blast playing with the kids, especially playing cornhole, and watching their faces light up when they got to keep the play dough or be on the firetruck.”

As a club and organization on their high school campus, the Randall High Key Club strives to get out in the community and share their strengths with others. There are plenty of opportunities for success in a community as large as the Texas Panhandle, and events like this one are easy, fun, and will bring you closer to those around you! There is no limit to how far you can go once you put yourself out there and serve others the way you’d want to be served.
