MARCH FOR MEALS CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES THIS MONTH TO FIGHT HUNGER AMONG SENIOR NEIGHBORS DENTON, TEXAS (Feb. 27, 2009)--THE NATIONAL “MARCH FOR MEALS” CAMPAIGN WILL LAUNCH THIS SUNDAY ON MARCH FIRST IN EFFORTS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF SENIOR HUNGER IN LOCAL COMMUNUTIES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. BETWEEN TWO-THOUSAND-ONE AND TWO-THOUSAND-FIVE NEARLY ONE IN TEN PERSONS AGED SIXTY-FIVE AND OLDER ENDURED SOME FORM OF FOOD INSECURITY. “THE HOPE OF THIS CAMPAIGN IS TO REMIND THE PUBLIC NOT TO FORGET ABOUT ALL THE CONTRIBUTIONS THAT OUR SENIORS HAVE MADE IN THIS COUNTRY, AND TO GIVE BACK,” SAYS JEN-NIHF-FER SOH-RHEN-SON COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR FOR THE SPECIAL PROGRAMS FOR AGING NEEDS IN DENTON COUNTY. THE MEALS ON WHEELS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA IS LAUNCHING THIS CAMPAIGN THIS MONTH TO RALLY TOGETHER NEIGHBORS AND PEOPLE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES WHO MAY NOT BE AWARE THAT THE PERSON NEXT DOOR TO THEM IS SOMEONE IN NEED. THE NUMBER OF SENIORS IN DENTON WILL NEARLY DOUBLE IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS FROM THE TWO-THOUSAND-AND-ONE CEN-SUS, ACCORDING TO US CENSUS DOT GOV. WE URGE PEOPLE TO VISIT W-W-W DOT MEALS ON WHEELS DOT ORG OR CONTACT SPAN AT NINE FOUR ZERO, THREE EIGHT TWO, TWO-TWO-TWO-FOUR TO FIND OUT HOW THEY CAN HELP. Meals on Wheels is one of many services provided by the Special Programs for Aging Needs (SPAN) in Denton County.
