URBAN ACTIVITY CENTER
CRUZ
- Programmatically a hybrid between a gym and a community center. - Located in the South of Market District of San Francisco (SoMa). - Used orthogonal box-like geometry to match the urban fabric. - Implemented a transitional space that wraps around three of the faรงades and indents in to emulate the inconsistent building heights. -To break from the rigidness of the faรงades, I designed two triangulated voids that pierce through the entire project. -The form of the voids was greatly influenced by a previous project in which we had to draw an analytical drawing from a randomly assigned picture. -The voids are used as atriums to assist with natural ventilation and also serve as light wells.

-SoMa used to be an industry related district which later became a mixed use district. -This transition allows the district to have a variety of building heights. - Inconsistent building heights make SoMa unique to the rest of San Francisco and I wanted to capture that essence on the faรงade of my project.

MOHS CANCER DEPARTMENT
- The Mohs skin cancer treatment department is relocating to the St. Francis building in the Franciscan Skemp Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin, a Mayo Clinic affiliated medical center. - I was given the task to space program and plan where in the building the practice should relocate and the overall layout of the department. - The doctor in charge of the Mohs practice wanted to start working on patients as soon as possible and to speed up the construction process, I designed the layout with minimal wall demolition and construction.

-PLACING THE EXAM ROOM AND LAB IN A CENTRAL LOCATION WORKS CIRCULATION WISE; HOWEVER, IT DOES NOT PROVIDE ENOUGH SPACE FOR EITHER SERVICE -BY RELOCATING THE EXAM ROOM TO A SLIGHTLY FARTHER LOCATION, IT INCREASES THE SQUARE FOOTAGE AND ALSO PROVIDES ENOUGH ROOM TO EXPAND THE LAB AND WORK ROOM

ADIDAS GIFT BOX PROPOSAL
CRUZ
- Proposal for an Adidas git box for climawarm branded gear which is meant to keep athletes warm in cold conditions - Being that the gear was meant for cold weather conditions, I designed the gift box lid to emulate a glacier with a fissure down the middle. - The lid is a frosted plexi glass material to give a semi opaque look to emulate melting ice. - The rest of the box has the 3 stripes running vertically down the center of the box. Within the stripes I included diamond shape indetions which is a prominent feature of climawarm fabric. - Within the box, there are three compartments lined by actual climawarm material for various assortment of gear; I designed it to accommodate a folded t-shirt, watch, and wallet/literature brochure

MOORE & GILES TRADE SHOW BOOTH
CRUZ
- Moore & Giles is a high end leather manufacturer that attends many exhibitions to showcase their products. - The booth is composed of several wooden modules, which allows the design to transform to comply with different area restrictions. - The overall design blends in a sophisticated dark oak wood with rustic wood and aluminum accents to provide a more contemporary look and feel. - The materials used are all neutral colors to allow the leather samples to stand out in contrast to the booth.

LEVEE DWELLING
CRUZ
- One of the main reasons why New Orleans flooded when Hurricane Katrina hit was because the levees protecting the city collapsed. -An ingenious way to reinforce the levees, and simultaneously create more housing, is by inserting homes between the buttresses of the levees. -The Levee Dwelling sits partially on the levee that holds back the Sacramento River. -The dwelling cannot have inhabitable spaces 15 feet below road level; only uninhabitable spaces like parking and storage is allowed below road level. -The North-South glazed facades allow views of the delta and take advantage of direct Southern and diffused Northern light. -The project uses a system of ramps to circulate the users throughout the project and the outdoors is seamlessly introduced both physically and visually in certain parts of the project. These two features were largely influenced by conducting a case study on Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye in Poissy, France.

INDUSTRIAL TATTOO & PIERCING REDESIGN
- The ethnography project consisted of me observing and researching a certain subculture to learn more about their architectural desires and needs. - The site I chose to study and redesign was Industrial Tattoo and Piercing on Dwight and Telegraph in Berkeley, California. - I chose to study a tattoo shop because tattoos and piercings are sometimes perceived as taboo and I have always been captivated by them. - The way I gathered my information at first was by simply visiting the tattoo and piercing shop and taking notes of the things I saw. -The next step was for me to select an informant and interview him to find out more about what he thought of the shop and how it could be altered to better accommodate their needs. I conducted three separate interviews with my informant. - I later did some outside research as to why people choose to modify their bodies and how body modification has been around for ages and is even related to nature and religion. - I combined all the different data I collected from these three different outlets and synthesized them into one cohesive redesign of the shop.

1. Bigger windows on the front facade to allow more sunlight in. 2. Small planters that serve as seating. 3. Larger planters that also serve as seating and have large trees to create a natural feel inside the shop. 4. Lightweight flexible display boards that show tattoo designs. 5. Thin jewelry display cases pushed against the wall to free up space for planters and display boards. 6. Sacrificed a tattoo room to provide more space to dedicate to the Client Lobby. 7. Modular tattoo and piercing rooms for consistency, as requested by proponent. 8. Sliding doors added to each room to provide a semipermeable threshold between public and private space. 9. Added a sliding door to the storage room so that clients don’t see stored materials/equipment. 10. Expanded the bathroom to accommodate physically disabled users.

COMMUNITY LIBRARY
CRUZ
- The Potrero Hill neighborhood is just a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle that is downtown San Francisco; however, it is able to sustain a tight-knight community. - The Protero Hill library is an essential component for the neighborhood because it helps foster that feeling of community. - The different functions that a community library can partake are sometimes limited by the rigid design of the project. - The flexible and fluid design implemented in this project allows community members to read in tranquility, hold large size events, and everything in between. - The library is supported by heavy concrete bookshelves that run vertically through the whole project and serve as structural components. -The remaining bookshelves are all flexible and can be arranged in any way desired.
