Yoga House - Oleiros, Portugal Bee Breeders - International competition - FINALIST - 2021 Group - Raphael Mitsueda / Douglas Vicentini Prana house was a finalist project in the international competition organized by bee breeders, for the construction of a yoga house in Oleiros, Portugal. The architectural project was designed from the inside out, as well as the yoga practice, following a hierarchy of spaces, with simple geometric shapes and large openings to the Mediterranean forest. The idea was to create a place with a zen atmosphere, where the ancient practice of yoga could be shared and practiced without distractions, providing an inner connection.

The film "On Canvas" is a project produced by Studio RMDV (Raphael Mitsueda and Douglas Vicentini), its not new that an idea of the voyeur and loneliness in big cities is explored in audiovisual, but bringing these questions to an architectural project is still an innovation. Then came the stimulus to publicize the project of the apartment, without focusing on the architecture and design itself, but integrating the place with the character and bringing the film closer to a short film language. For the performance, they invited Bertô, an artist and independent filmmaker, who brought together professionals in photography, scenic design, and music to create the team. The creative process comprised of a pre-production that lasted several months. The initial ideas came from classics such as Alfred Hitchcocks "Rear Window", Gustavo Tarettos "Medianeras" and Marcio Kogans "Oh Lovely Bee" (Studio MK27). With a long take and no dialogue, the mise-en-scène focuses on the path and gestures of the observed protagonist, through a cinematic framing that is proportionate to the living room window. An interesting observation about this choice is the encounter between cinema and architectural aesthetic: exploring the organization of space when thinking about the project, while also focusing on the movements of the characters as they explore it. The name “On Canvas” suggests a relation with the painting which the protagonist focuses his attention throughout the short film, but also expresses the observation of the scene through a window, filling a blank canvas to the possible observer. Letting the drone leak into the reflection of the glass, besides being an interesting point for photography, addresses the dystopia between technology and lack of privacy.

Contemporary Art Museum - Naples, Italy Reuse the Roman Ruin Competitiont - 2020 Group - Raphael Mitsueda/ Douglas Vicentini/ Jhoony Rezende/ Andre Guerra Memory is an aspect of history that carries an extremely subjective and complex debate, relating original functions to temporality was an important issue to compose this proposal. Initially, a kind of monumental character of the cistern was thought from water mirrors, seeking amplitude, making counterpoints between lightness and the monument, between submerged art and historical experience. The circulation in this proposal was strategically designed to create different pathways, whether in the idea of an elongated walk with the ramps, or more discreet with the stairs, always considering how these different relations of sensations mold the exhibition and contemplation space that make up the museum.

Ghost Town Refuge - Matera , Italy Young Architects Competition - 2020 Group - Raphael Mitsueda /Douglas Vicentini The project begins with a quest to understand the relationship between the village and time. Craco is a province of Matera, one of the oldest cities in the world, but it has been totally abandoned due to some environmental factors. A city full of memories but which has seen its stories disappear along with the ruins of the old buildings. The architectural intervention aims to create facilities that help preserve the rich history of the place and offer shelters to visitors from around the world who visit the village annually, adding new routes and proposing new ways to experience the space to connect even more with the essence of the place.

Artic Hotel - Rovaniemi (Finland) Young Architects Competitio - 2021 Group - Raphael Mitsueda /Douglas vicentini/ Daniel Bludeni / Luciana Abud Rovaniemi, in Finland, also known as "Santa Claus Village", is a popular destination among people from all over the world to enjoy its landscapes and its magnificent natural phenomenon - the northern lights. Its local culture is very present and spread due to the richness and tradition of the Sami people. Bearing this in mind, the Artic Hotel project honors and explores Finnish culture and tradition in every detail of the design, translated into the program with its saunas and spas, the choice of the material - wood, stone, and glass - and with the implementation, fragmented into blocks along the terrain, allowing the creation of numerous paths in the forest, so that the visitor can enjoy and always be as close as possible to nature.

Cultural Center - Sedhiou, Senegal Kaira Looro Competition - 2018Group - Raphael Mitsueda /Douglas Vicentini Analyzing the history of the people of Sedhiou, the most relevant factors that were considered in this creative process were the internal conflicts they have faced throughout history. Internal conflicts shape an atmosphere of fear and pressure in society, where there is no space for cultural expression, art, or even optimism. A people who live without a future perspective, deal with the fear of death daily and adapt to the conditions which they are subjected, by the lack of intervention of any greater force that can intervene in the destiny of this society. And so, social instability takes over from generation to generation, oppressing dreams and hiding talents.

Group - Aristea Koukounouri (Greece) + Ana Gomes (Portugal) + Raphael Mitsueda (Brazil) The project started in a relation with the moviePersona (1966), by the swedish director Ingmar Bergman (1908-2007). The program of the project is a house in a foggy island in Denmark and the client would be the boy from the movie (he is an adult now). Persona implies that there would always be an opposition between the feelings of the boy, two equal but opposite sides. It talks about two sides of people : the side that we think we know and the side that we don't even know that exists. One moment everything is still there, but suddenly, in a glimpse, everything becomes chaotic. It is a controlled chaos going from here to there.

SECTION AA

FYR ESCAPE HOUSE

FYR ISLAND DENMARK

The proposol for the house of Elizabeth’s son reflects his personality, which is divided in two sides: the one the guides him to know the truth about his mother, and the one that leads him to search for himself. This boy decided to live isolated in Fyr island, a foggy land, full of cold stones and stopped waters, where memories remain buried in it territory. During time, the boy becomes an exterior viewer, who tries to find answers to his deep questions. While struggling with his two sides the house reflects this division consisting in two buildings that are the opposite of each other, and at the same time are also complementary. These two volumes, cylinder and a cube can also be compared with the psyque of Elizabeth and Alma, which seem to be something else from what they really are. These two architectural bodies are connected with a narrow corridor that reflects the conection between the two actresses. The one that presents itself as a cylinder has a square interior inside. This half part of the building includes the library (a really important place for the boy which appears in the movie reading a book), the living room, the kitchen and the technical area. The other half, which presents itself as a cube, has a cylinder interior inside, including facilities such as the bedroom, bathroom and closet.

LIVING THE DREAM Central Saint Martins Studio 2 Studio Leader - Andrew Friend Author - Raphael Mitsueda Architecture Instalation A Common motif walking around the streets of west end is that of a façade, seen how the numerous shops windows are decorated to evoke a sence of grandiosity at eye level, but are placed in deteriorated looking buildings if you were to look up. This façade utimately becomes a unreality, as it is seen as a synonym of success and consequently as a form of identity to those who become too imersed in that fantasy.

Stage 2 and Stage 3

During the semester we had a week to produce the pavilions where the students of the last year would make their final exhibition. Together with them, we helped design and develop the structure starting with the joins, we look for many references of the Japanese projects that use a lot of techniques with wood. We did some 3d tests and some prototypes, and then we used machines like CNC to cut all the pieces in real scale and finished the finishes in the wood workshop. In a group of almost 15 people divided between stage 2 and stage 3 students, we were able to finish the pavilion in just one week.
