Forrest, Otway Ranges, VIC I 20-21 February 2021 I www.OtwayOdyssey.com.au
WELCOME to the Otway Odyssey presented by Focus held in conjunction with the Great Otway Gravel Grind in the magnificent Otway Ranges out of Forrest.
The Otway Odyssey races are without doubt some of the most iconic MTB events in Australia and hold a high reputation within the biking fraternity. Crossing the finish line in any race over the weekend should be one of the proudest moments in any riders' racing career, especially for those tackling the 100km Odyssey that returns to its original, transOtway course from Apollo Bay to Forrest. Shorter distance races provide their own mix of challenges and well-earned rewards as you race along Forrest’s renowned flowing single track – making the finish line a welcome site for all peddlers. Combine the trails with an electric race atmosphere, extensive event expo, sponsors stands, food, drinks and live music and it is going to be a weekend to remember. If you are one of the many riders returning after a cycling hiatus, if you’re an Odyssey regular or if you’re new to the event we extended a huge welcome to you, and wish you good speed and incident free riding at the 15th edition of this iconic event. THE COURSES The Otway Odyssey MTB courses provide plenty of rewarding riding through some spectacular terrain. The trails are generally not too-technical and provide for some fast riding through beautiful, undulating terrain, but the distances and the hills soon add up so the courses need to be treated with respect (especially the 100km) and make for a massive day in the saddle no matter what your speed is. Show us what you’re made of. General notes about the courses • All courses intersect with each other so all riders need to be aware of the colour your course is marked with to ensure you follow the correct route • Rider etiquette - faster riders will come up on slower riders. So please show respect and be courteous to one another, the faster rider should only pass once they have permission from the slower rider and it is safe to do so. Don’t be a dick and barge on through. Course marking: It is up to the rider to KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR AND FOLLOW THE COURSE MARKINGS to follow the course. • ARROWS pointing the correct way to go (pegged into the ground and fixed to trees or bushes) • PLASTIC SURVEYORS TAPE - tied to trees or bushes, indicating the correct way to go • RED and WHITE barrier tape across a track / road marking the wrong way. Do NOT cross red and white tape. • all intersections will be clearly marked with an arrow and/or coloured tape • There will be occasional markings (up to 1km apart) between intersections to help confirm that you are on the right route RACE STARTS • All riders must wear a face mask whilst waiting to start in the start chute. Face masks may be removed once under way. • We may need to introduce wave starts. Wave starts will involve self seeding into groups of <100. Wave starts details will be confirmed prior to the event and/or over the PA at the event.
