For the majority of rap song's you will find that the time is 4/4. This is also known as common time. However, if you want there are other time signatures that you can use. You can use 2/4 or 3/4. There are a couple of other times signatures that you can use that you won't find a lot but they are fun experimenting with. There is a 6/8 and or a 7/8 time signature. Tactic #2 - Make sure that your beats match your lyrics You want to make sure that when you create beats, that they match your lyrics. Listen or read the lyrics. You want to figure out what type of emotions the lyrics are portraying. So for example if the lyrics portray anger, then you want to have beats that will do the same thing. If the lyrics convey a lot of energy, then you want your beats to show this same energy. You just want to remember that your freestyle rap beats will portray whatever emotion is conveyed in the lyrics. Tactic #3 - Create your beat or drum pattern. Of course there are several pieces and parts to your drum set, so the first piece of the drum kit that you will work with is the bass drum. The bass drum is the one piece of the kit that will maintain the rhythm. For a very basic pattern, you can use the bass drum on the 1st and 3rd beats if you are using a four beat pattern. Tactic #4 - Add the next piece of your drum kit. The next piece of the drum kit that you want to incorporate into your drum pattern is the snare drum. If you are using the bass drum on beats 1 and 3, then you can use the snare drum on the 2nd and the 4the beat. This will give you a good basic beat. Now there are several other types of instruments or sounds that you can add in place of or in addition to the snare drum. This will help to make your beat pattern unique. Tactic #5 - Add the decorations This is the step that is the most fun. This is where you really get to show off your creativity. By this time you have your basic drum pattern, using your bass drum and snare drum. Now you can add in your hi-hats and your toms and even your different cymbals. You also can continue to add other instruments or sounds. These 5 tactics will give you the steps that you need to create your freestyle rap beats. Go ahead and get started and just let your creative juices flow. If you want freestyle rap beat tips to become a hip hop DJ, then claim your FREE newsletter at http://www.BeatsMethod.com.
