Have you ever started or gotten in the middle of your battle and didn't know what to say? A way to circumvent this is to write what we call a "golden rhyme". What is a "golden rhyme"? This is your foundation of your rhyme. You might also call this your fallback rhyme. If you get stuck, lost for words, or don't know what to say next, the special rhyme is the solution. The rhyme is something that you can always go back to if you run out of something to say. This is the one that you have created. This is your foundation. This rhyme is that one that you are the most comfortable with. This is the rhyme that you have personally chosen as being your foundation rhyme. The golden rhyme is the one that you will incorporate into your battle at the beginning, in the middle of your flow or and the end of your freestyle rhyme. This will give you the foundation to go back to when you need that extra "umph" during the heat of the battle. To give you some practice on creating the your special rhyme, I have an exercise for you to put into practice. The first thing that you want to do is to get yourself a piece of clean paper. On this paper you will write a rhyme that you are comfortable rhyming to any kind of instrumental beat. You want this rhyme to be at least 15-30 seconds. The content of this rhyme can be whatever you have a preference for. In other words, you want to make it about whatever you want and whatever you are comfortable with. Once you have written it to your satisfaction, you are to memorize it. Whatever "golden rhyme" that you create for your freestyle rap battles you want it to be so powerful that it will give a powerful punch, leave your competitors with a powerful punch line and leave you standing out from the other freestylers who are battling along with you.
