a) What is bulk cargo? It consists of a single cargo, which is usually carried loose.

b) What is general cargo? It consists of a variety of goods that are packed separately.

c) Why is bulk cargo easier to stow than general cargo? The reason being is because bulk cargo is carried in specially designed vessels unlike general cargo where each item has different shapes and sizes, and thus has its own packaging and characteristics.


d) What type of pumps may tankers have for unloading oil? They may have reciprocating or centrifugal pumps.

e) What type of cargoes will taint delicate cargoes? Non-containerized cargo such as tobacco and rubber may taint delicate cargoes, such as tea and rice.

In order to help with the problem of stowage.


g) What are the dimensions of a container? The dimensions of a container are 8 feet high and 8 feet wide (2.44m x 2.44m) and 20 feet or 40 feet (6.1m or 12.2m) in length.

h) What sort of cargo is carried in refrigerated holds? Perishable cargo such as meat and fruit are carried in refrigerated holds.
