The Visual Arts in the Primary years are a necessary form of expression that is inherent in all cultures, a powerful means to assist in the development of the whole child and important for interpreting and understanding the world. My Visual Arts pedagogy and planning aims to develop students’ aesthetic, creative, imaginative and critical faculties. This aim is achieved through the implementation of a coherent, well balanced program, starting from Foundation years and right up to the completion of Year 6.
!
Art is considered a major language of childhood and an important way for children to learn about their world and to communicate their thoughts and ideas. The goal of the art programme is to empower children with different art materials, processes, skills and tools to promote their confidence and personal expression. Opportunities are provided to facilitate an in-depth exploration of materials, along with motivating discussions that support children to think and feel deeply about their own experiences.
The Visual Arts are a human right and should certainly be a part of education today.
Personal Statement ! !
Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to be an artist. My own passion toward the Visual Arts began to emerge in my own Primary Schooling. I remember to this day, just how infatuated I became with the discipline after studying Beatrix Potter’s story books in the Art room.
!
I thought it was incredible that we could both read and find out information and facts, whilst also creating things, these were all of my favourite things to do, and nothing much has changed since then.
! ! !
My dream is to inspire current and future generations to be creative & innovative, to enhance Visual literacy, and ultimately to open up my students eyes to the wider world, whilst instilling a deeprooted desire to become life-long, inquisitive learners like myself.
