About 1 in 20 horses and ponies suffer from Sweetitch. Autumn is often the worst time. There are many horses of 15hh and over with Sweetitch. Culicoides breed in moist soil, rotting vegetation and muck heaps, not in flowing water. - Culicoides can shelter in any herbage, including grass. - Trees create still air, which they prefer. - All horses may be bitten but only some individuals show an allergic reaction. - Culicoides find their prey mainly by sight, not smell so feeding your horse garlic will not help. - Claims are made for substances which can be fed to horses with Sweetitch. We know of no reliable reports of equine clinical trials that support these claims. - Sweetitch is caused by an over-active immune system, not one that needs boosting!

How to fit your Rug The fit of your rug is extremely important in order to ensure the comfort of your horse and to prevent rubbing and slippage of the rug. As horses of the same height at the wither come in a variety of shapes and sizes, it is useful to take certain measurements of your horse. Measure the distance X from the centre of the chest across the point of shoulder to the centre of the tail. Take 4" off for a Turnout and 7" off Y Measurement at bottom of Rug for a stable.
