Two - Gather | Collective Form of Living
Graduate Thesis | 2019 - 2020 Site : Mumbai, India Program : Housing and Recreational Facilities Professor : Ryan McCaffrey Mumbai’s chawls are an existing regional housing typology that embody ideas of communal living. The research and design intent are a combination of analyzing the collective form of living through the elements of chawls. The courtyard, corridor, and individual houses play an essential role in healthy community living. As the courtyard acts as a public element of interaction and activities, the corridor (Hallway) is a semi private element that performs a translational space between the courtyard and individual tenements. With this simple approach, the thesis design is situated in a developing suburban zone of Mumbai. The design strategy is driven from the way chawls function architecturally and programmatically. The overall design aims to create non-barricaded non-exclusive, non-elitist spaces through affordable housing and recreational facilities.

Chawls as a regional precedent has various infrastructure issues like shared sanitation and utilities space, exposed piping systems, narrow entrance and staircases and chajjas. Communal Elements courtyards and corridors are public and semi private place of physical and visual interaction catering to various flexible andshared programs daily, weekly and yearly.

A Productive Neighborhood
Graduate Studio | 2019 Site : Bucklin Plaza, West Providence, Rhode Island Program : Co-operative Market + Community kitchen Professor : Brian Goldberg The project began with built forms of dwelling and communing, but also to the rituals and routines that organize everyday life in community; structured spaces, but also landscapes, weather, plants and animals, movements and gestures, sound, food, the calibration of intimacy and separation, and the organization and regulation of time. This Living-Together could include both spatial and geographic as well as temporal continuities and asynchronies, perhaps even the virtual. Post this conceptual way of process the final project is based on a large urban site in the city of Providence to develop a community resources and infrastructure and related cooperative housing project. The design stragtegy is based on the the way site is orientated and street access conditions .

Opportunities for Reverse Migration | A Textile Unit
Undergraduate Thesis | 2017 Site : Pralahadpura, Rajasthan, India Program : Small Scale Textile Unit Professor : Anand Pandit This project questions “Instead of creating urban generators as a mode of development and opportunities, can a rural generator be created to retain skilled labor and artisans in Western India?. The research is based on studying migration patterns in India in relation to three-tier city, rural areas and their potential of development by retaining its culture, environment and creating opportunities for the migrants. The project thus deals with the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor inclusion and proposal of a textile unit within that belt which can further be expanded. The massing and site strategy is derived from understanding the textile making process and patterns printed on the fabric as an appraoch to make the artist feel comfortable in the place provided. The project is a prototype inspired from the art and architecture of the city and for its people.

A Self Sufficient Urban Cluster
Undergraduate Studio | 2017 Site : Motilal Nagar - Goregoan, Mumbai, India Program : Mixed Used + Urban Farming Professor : Atrey Chhaya and Dipal Chhaya The brief for the studio is to Re-Design an urban cluster. The site consist of mixed used programs like residential, commercial, retail and recreational spaces. Currently the existing site has ground plus one structures and needs to expand to carter the increasing population in and around the site. The intent is to re-develop the cluster with an incentive of self sufficiency and sustainability for the future. The concept is based on live + work + self driven economy. The commodity chosen for this purpose is food and functions and products generated by urban farming. The design strategy is based on terracing the mass for farms and making a mixed use structure. The project will house more then two times the existing population on site .

Bamboo and Cane Weaving Centre
Undergraduate Studio | 2016 Site : Yeoor Hills, Mumbai, India Program : Weaving Centre Professor : Anand Pandit The project focuses on the study of natural light filtering through the forest. The interweaving of the canopies and leaves creating variation in terms of density and distribution. These unique experiences are mapped and re-imagined as a form of weaving through the craft of basket weaving, the forest and branches. This was done with the intention of introducing and popularizing the art form in the chosen site and for a sustainable form of living within the community. The program is proposed as a centre of art promoting the practice of weaving and showcasing the techniques, skill, and products culminating out of this craft. The built form is concept inspired and suggested to be built with locally available materials.

Totems to Trash
Graduate Studio | Spring 2019 Site : Market Square, Providence, Rhode Island Program : Trash Group Installation Professor : Gabriel Feld The studio was introduced with the idea to consider the long history of humans generating disposable stuff—dating back to Monte Testaccio, which, as he puts it, was “nothing but a gigantic pile of garbage from imperial times—big enough to rival the legendary hills of Rome!”. Researching materials, quantities, and assemblages as a means to develop a new architectural language. What happens when an architectural model begins with discarded coffee cups, plastic bottles, aluminium cans or commercial fishing waste and not from the art store. Can the inherent charge of a material render meaningful solutions in pursuit of architecture?Further the final project was made out of all the trash collected from the neighbourhood and the recycling centre at RhodeIsland. The total trash weighed 1500 gallons.

The Tessellated Horse
Kala Ghoda Art Festival | 2017 Site : Kalaghoda Street, Mumbai, India Theme : Return of the Black Horse In collaboration with Ahbijeet Karwa, Samyak Doshi, Shikha Shah, Vedant Nair Kalaghoda portrays the heritage arts district of Mumbai. The work ‘Kalaghoda’ means black horse. The purpose is to create and spread multi-cultural awareness through platforms like festivals and events. The design features a 12 feet tessellated metallic horse emerging out of ground, galloping forward, portraying the speed of light. The tessellations are partly-covered, denser near the base and sparser as the horse rises higher, letting light out of this mass and showing the horse emerge out of light. Universally, the horse is symbol of power and wisdom. The rustic plates of the surface showcase strength and power, and the finished frame building the horse portrays wisdom.

Re- Imagining Street as a Public Space
Pune Biennale National Level Competition | 2017 Awarded 2nd Prize Site : Horniman Circle, Mumbai, India In collaboration with Shikha Shah The objective is to “design interventions in streets that bring about acquaintanceship between the people and the space. There is a constant struggle between the nostalgia of the past and the present scenario. We are a part of cauldron, an overlaid mosaic. Yet, there seems an enormous possibility of making sense of a street. Identify a street in your city with which you share a sense of belonging. Explain the significance, issues and concerns that have emerged around the city, and the articulate your response on how to reclaim the street as something that enhances the sense of place. Hence the idea was to restore the architecture, promote the cultural and exhibit the heritage values of the site.

The main issue addressed by our project is to densify cities by the use of vertical dimension while keeping the urban and architectural variety and complexity of “horizontal cities. The idea behind the project is to promote growth of the city in the vertical form with maintaining the eclectic nature of horizontal cities. To do this we have designed a module system built on a rigid infrastructure cores. The core contains the transportation network and life systems of the tower. Defined public zones would create a community feel and the large spaces they create further promote the liberty of movement within. A waste energy system and sewage treatment is in place below the ground, further decreasing the environmental degradation that characterizes the current urban expansion.
