The concept for the masteplan derived from a similar inpiration as the stadium. Like a lit fanous casted shadows which inspired its envelope, the island’s circumference was made up of a series of silhouettes casted by the sun of the stadium. Each curve represents a shadow at a particular time in the day. Axes were run through the shape to create the different zones and better organisation.

Multiple outdoor spaces was critical to this project for security and social aspects. Therefore in this approach, the path to each resident’s home acts as a shared terrace and the uneven protrusions allow for some privacy. Also, the path overlooks the inner couryard to allow for cross-communication as well as multiple visual points and constant movement.
Right: this approach proposed the idea of a central public park with pathways connecting each individual building that would have its own outdoor spaces within the building and on multiple levels. Below: In this approach, a unit of 3 buildings shared a central courtyard with a free flow of movement among these set of community.
A series of models were produced to test the spatial oragnisation of the structure and whether they meet the specific requiremnts of the project. The individual boxes act as the 3 kinds of apartments layered to create a stable structure.
Right: A design modification was introduced to eliminate the segregation created by a 3-set society. By having the s-shape for each building they could be connected at either end. This allowed for their inidvidual pocket parks as well as be one continuos structure on the entire plot.

The arrangement of apartments encourages direct views to the central courtyard and pocket parks. Moreover, the path to the resident’s home crosses multiple outdoor spaces on different levels via a set of free staircases to encourage movement and interaction.

The Project revolved around a development at that time in Spain for another Las Vegas to be established in Alcorcon, in the outskirts of Madrid, popularly named as ‘Euro Vegas’. The city was debating whether it would be beneficial or detrimental to its people and culture. Students went through 3 phases. PHASE-1 involved research and critical examination via presentations. PHASE-2 called for the development of a possible design for this kind of project and lastly, PHASE-3 encouraged the groups to come together and create one unifying structure that included all the key aspects of Euro Vegas.
The structure designed is an abstract approach to Euro Vegas wherein aspects such as gambling, hotels and exhibition spaces, transportation, and agriculture and sustainibilty, were featured as key components. An organic, almost erotic, void runs through the entire height of the building to represent gambling and its prime, influential and addictive nature. Hotels and exhibitions were layed at the edges of the structure to access direct sunlight and to promote movement on elevation. Main transportation was decided to be through telefrics so visitors could have an elevated and awe-inspiring view of this massive project. Agriculture and sustainability were added to the project to increase the project’s ethical value and reduce its carbon footprint. We learnt that if Vegas were indeed to be built in Spain, it was critical to its people that it should be redefined in their mannersatisfying the needs of the city and conforming to their culture.
