imtiaz farm house

ABOUT THE PROJECT :

15

Total site area : 4050 Sq.M. Total Built area : 148 Sq.M. The farmhouse at Vitla is envisaged as a composition of two volumes; a ‘light’ living unit and a discreet service unit tucked away behind a continuous wall running along the driveway. The two blocks are connected by a semi-open pathway overlooking a private garden. The living area is visualized as a volume of glass inserted between two planes, one being the ground/floor plane and the other being roof, offering panoramic views of the valley and its lush greenery. The living unit is also partially ‘sunk’ into the lower levels of the site, offering much required privacy from the road side of the plot, which is also incidentally at a higher elevation. The farmhouse thus becomes a living oasis tucked away within the greenery of the site and at the same time providing generous views of the surroundings.

Karnire Mosque

About :

Situated in Udupi, Mangalore, karnataka. Karnire mosque is design as a place for prayers and gethering. The building provides a communal space that help people to relax from the fast pacing society. The site’s space demands a zig-zag planning where the prayer hall was oriented faces towards Mecca direction as per the rituals of Muslim community. The ordinary massing was replaced by comtemporary design using colonnade brickwork and chain link mesh frames that lets in natural light and air to reach the prayer hall.

Construction phase -1 Site levelling

About : Total Built area : 88 Sq.M. Site is located at the rain forest region of athirapally, kerala, india. One of the main challenge we have encounter was the rules and regulations of the forest department. Since on site construction was not allowed in the area, the only possible approach was to incorporate prefabrication materials. Furthermore, with time constraint and low budget, 2 container boxes along with a prefabricated unit was selected for the construction. Basic planning of the project was done considering the site levels. Upper ground has the entry from the main road and lower ground level consist of the internal courtyard and the cafeteria seatings and the levels are connected by the internal spiral starcase. 08 Construction phase -2 Placing 1st Container ont he lower level

About Proposed site is at Andrott, lakshadweep,India. While approching this project, the main challenge was to create a segregation between public and private spaces. So the public entance lobby and the parade ground gallery where raised from the ground level. Therefore the private function for the officers and jawans where allotted in the ground level. The circular courtyard was introduced in the building that acts as the main transition space for both public and private. 05 07 09 16 17 20 21 22 23 24

About : Proposed site is at kalpeni, lakshadweep, India. While approching this project, the main challenge faced was to implement the requirement of multiple users into one mass without losing the identities. So the Civil and coastal police departments were split to the right side of the site using the common entrace lobby and placing Fire station and IRBn to the left. And one huge Parade ground is provided in the center of both blocks which opens towards the beach.

ABSTRACT

Site Area:12 acre. Built Area:21,586 sq.m. REQUIREMENT LIST

DESIGN STRATEGY

India registers itself as the nation, which produces the largest number of movies. Kerala a small state in the country has been vibrant in the field of quality motion pictures. Although many movies, television shows, etc have been filmed in Kerala, there are minimum existing facilities that offers the space, education, publication, opportunities, equipment and so forth that my design would promote the film industry to expand, educate, advertise etc by way of placing the state of art,Cinemateque and Cinemateket. A place which will have movies, but which will also offer other recreational spaces, taking advantage of the latest technologies, Common spaces to promote communication. The idea is in part to remove film from its classic exhibition site, to transform those spaces to become more than just services related to the experience of the movies, but rather to become part of the experience itself.

PRODUCTION

To design a public space within the city where people can get together, relax engage in different activities related and enhance ideas. To articulate a public space that becomes a venue for art and creativity for people to refer and study from. My design will investigate the connection between architecture and film and how each can enhance the others development. To help the youngsters of our country who aspire for a career in the visual media, as they could get professional training in a field that is ever expanding. To come up with a well designed campus where students find free and open space to interact.

About the Site : The proposed site is the chitranjali film studio complex (film production studio) of KSFDC. The site is located at thiruvallam, 5kms away from the capital town. The kerala government publications and government sponsored Kinfra organisation states that Trivandrum is the hub of film industry. Many film related programmes are already being held in trivandrum like film festivals, documentary and video festivals, short film festivals etc. There is no film institutions in the state for the upcoming talents. The proposed site chithranjali studio is now being used as a film production studio. Out of the 70 acres of land, only 10 acres is being used for the film production. This will be a suitable site for the institution and public functions related to film. And the over-all site can be used as a gathering space for the film artists and related functions. It will be a great opportunity for the students in the institute to interact with the artists that already working in the field of cinema.

Ideas and Process :

The site has been divided in three different zones as per the site contours and existing vegetation on site : Public, Academic and residence zone. Therefore, it is also a public place were people can experience movie from its production stage to the end. Also it can function as a venue for Kerala film festival and other exhibition related to movie. Also academic and public functions are diving into different levels, entrance level and floor above that is concidered as the public spaces. Therefore both the public and academic functions are possible on the same site.

01

Lowest contour on the north side. Almost flat area is obtained on the top of the existing site. This also gives a good view from the site.

02

The lines from existing site boundary is Extended to fix the boundary of the site.

07

03

Roads on south and west side. Road on south side acts as the main access and connects the site with the post-production studio.

05

Three coutryards are fixed by taking the cluster of trees in the site, into consideration. The main axis of the site is thus formed by joining the three courtyards. The courtyards are divided into public,semi-public and private courts.

04

Post production studio is situated at the south-east, which is a positive element for the academic wing

06

The lines of the building profile are mainly chosen by Considering the axis and the site boundary. Red lines are parallel to the site boundaries while the blue lines are perpendicular to the main axis. The common area for the academic and public is provided Close to the main access road.

Since a park is proposed in the west side, the public zone is on the west. Since the post production studio block is a positive element For the academics, the academic zone is placed adjacent To the existing buildigs in the site. Residential block is placed in the private zone.

Private Circulation Path : The private circulation mainly con-

nects the administration Wing, six departments and the hostel block. This happens in three levels. The administraion block is separated from the academic Wing with a semi-public couryard, which is a part of the Main axis.
