Children and adolescents aren‘t a homogeneous group of „small kids“. They dont focus on the medical treatment when they enter the healthcare facility. They often experience hospitalization as alienation from their usual environment. These feelings can lead to anxiety and stress, which puts additional strain on the patients. In this context, our project proposes a new typology that will provide better conditions in which children and adolescents can experience more normality and comfort. It was also important to us to develop and re-cast the typology of psychatries and healthcare facilities in generall to enact a potent integration with the city and neighborhood. And to help to encourage the dialouge of mental health care.

Interior Render, Appartment, Feeling home
On the upper floors, the building is divided into two areas. On the left side are the therapy rooms. We wanted the living area to be as separate as possible so that the children could retire and feel at home. The living area is arranged around the courtyard. The service rooms are located on the left side of the courtyard, so we have achieved that the area is both well visible and protected and separated at the same time.

The task was to create a building complex for media production. An inner-city cinema, film production workshops, a film museum and temporary apartments of various sizes are to be merged into one building complex in which housing, film production and film screening enrich and complement each other. The plot is located in the Center of Berlin.

This project is showcasing our proposel for a temporary living and working space. The site is placed in down town Berlin, so therefore we aimed to design an open and inviting construction from the street level.

Inside, our main design focus was to create transparancy throughout the building. We achieved this by using perforated sheets of metal around the whole building. The perforation is scaled differently to secure both private and semi private spaces.

Berlin’s continuing demographic growth and the subsequent housing shortage1, raise the urgent question of how to construct large amounts of affordable housing in short time. Given the limited number of vacant sites in central areas, „Critical Mass“ aims to challenge Berlins established rules of density, asking for the appropriate degree of land utilization. The research and design studio will investigate these issues via a mixed housing typology, a „High-rise for the Many“.

Starting process of design was a closed block volume. The “Hypa block” was generated mainly at first to catch the light, prospect and outdoor life. Therefore we broke up the typical perimeter development into three different types of apartment buildings. As a result, the different horizontal layers have achieved a quality of their own: the apartments benefit from the view, sunlight and fresh air, while the office leases merge with life on the street.

Layers of Space Rather than a traditional berlin block, the Hyper Block stacks all ingredients of a lively urban neighborhood into horizontal and vertical layers of typologies connected by collective spaces and terraces up to the 14th floor.

In the process of working with the theme Critical Mass, we aimed to play around with different social constructions. Main focus was to research and showcase the varity of how people are living and to find a way to support these structures by offering a wide range of units.

Our job was to design a hybrid within a restricted site. The hybrid consists of Retirement homes, one daycare instituation and some public units.

The buildings forms a sequence of courtyards with a staggered publicity according to the building depth and height in connection with the surroundings. Public facilities are located on the ground floor and the daycare center and communal kitchens are located near the enterance. Different transparencies of the facade strengthen spatial relationships and opportunities for retreat.

Our task was to develop and 3D print a Pavillion by working with parametric design. My design is inspired by a Richard Serra installation at the Guggenheim Museum and plays with density and space.
