YEAR 3 PROJECT 1 FRINGE THEATRE: THE 'RISE' Location: Surrey Street, London, UK Duration: 4 weeks
This 4-week project requires cooperation between students from architecture and civil engineering. The brief is to design a 'fringe theatre' within the site of the closed Aldwych Tube Station on Surrey street, London. The theatre must includes a main 300-people theatre and two smaller ones as well as a gallery for tube poster exhibition. We chose immersive theatre as our main theatre function. In the middle of each theatre level are detachable platforms hanging on

cables which can move up and down to create different space according to plays. The walkways around the platforms are timber on steel frames with cross bracing. The street facades are made of transluscent concrete that allows light to travel through during nighttime.

Main Traffic
Different from traditional theatre, an immersive theatre is where the audience are not standing by and watching the plays only, but part of the show and should be able to interact with performers. We aimed to design special environment where the audience can watch dramas from various angles and easily access the stages when the said interactions take place. The concept started from analysing the performer-audience relation in traditional theatre, inspired by Victorian dollhouse, and finally turned to multi-level moveable stages as we have in our design.

YEAR 3 PROJECT 2 CYA LIBRARY: 'GREENWALL'

Location: Mountjoy Square Park, Dublin, Ireland Duration: 5 weeks
The brief is to design a satellite library for children and young adults in one of the four disadvantaged areas in northern Dublin that could serve as 'Urban Acupuncture' in hope to improve the surrounding environment. The chosen site locates at the northeast corner of Mountjoy Square which is fairly popular among young people. The design concept is the interaction between the library and Georgian park, from which I adopted the double-skin
facade that allows people inside the library to enjoy the beauty of the park, while people outside see the greenwall outer skin as an extension of the park's vegetation. The combination of brick and timber for building envelope respondes to several contemporary buildings located in southern Dublin, which share the same material strategy.

YEAR 2 PROJECT 1 COMMUNITY HUB
YEAR 2 PROJECT 2 MEDICAL CENTRE
Location: Combe Down, Bath, UK Duration: 3 weeks
Location: University of Bath, Bath, UK Duration: 5 weeks
First built-in-context project located in Combe Down, a small village in Bath where most buildings are made of Bath stone. The design was produced after looking into local history and site survey to give a friendly and welcoming impression that fit in surrounding environment the best.
This project is a study of spatial relations while addressing convenience for patients and staff. Green roofs are introduced to mediate the grassland and academic buildings lying behind.

The first year projects were a steep learning curve, encouraging both group cooperation and individual critical thinking. The briefs range from an abstract sculpture to practical designs, requiring students to think how functions should be interlinked but also work on an independent basis.

PLACEMENT 02/2015 - 08/2015
My placement in the second semester of the second year was taken in AVR London, an architecture visualisation company that cooperates with a number of architecture practices and developers. During my six-month placement period I have been going through numerous projects in the UK and abroad, including Crossrail Stations, Islington Square and Olympicopolis.
Being small yet active, AVR London encourages each employee to develop multiple skills required for producing digital illustration, from which I have the chance to fully practise on 3ds Max and Adobe Photoshop. The placement of working in AVR London has bestowed me with great knowledge of technical skills, precious experience in team working as well as communicating directly with clients and deeper understanding towards the architecture industry, all of which will be of considerable help to my future study.
