Junior Golf Program

Junior Program Mission and Staff OUR MISSION

The mission of Ravenna’s Junior Golf Program is to develop a junior golfer’s: character, confidence, physical strength, and golf skills in a fun, positve atmosphere. We believe golf can be a life long activity that promotes health and excitement. We believe in the safety and well being of all Ravenna Junior Golfers. If we can positively influence a childs life through the game of golf, we are doing our job.

CHILDREN’S CODE OF CONDUCT

Although fun is at the core of Junior Golf, Ravenna asks that our juniors represent our Club with the same respect as all of our adult members. We ask that children dress appropriately for the golf course. Shirts tucked in, Hats forward etc.. We believe in the safety of our Juniors as well, please take the time to discuss safety and respect for others before bringing your Junior to the course. Lastly, we ask that your juniors are supervised at all times while at Ravenna.

STAFF DIRECTOR OF JUNIOR GOLF

Chris Carroll, Level 2 PGA Apprentice ccarroll@ravennagolf.com Chris has been developing Junior golfers for 7 years now. He began in Minnesota running Junior Camps of all ages when he transitioned to Colorado to bolster his PGA Membership education while focusing his teaching skills towards Junior Golfers. Last year Chris organized and coached Ravenna’s first ever PGA Junior League team, the Ravenna Rattler’s, and is hoping to build upon it’s success. He grew up playing all sports but focused on hockey and baseball. He played college baseball in Northern Minnesota before retiring to softball and golf. “Coaching the Rattler’s last year was the most rewarding thing I’ve done in my 10 plus years in the industry. The kids continuously made me laugh and taught me several things along the way! You have to love a junior’s raw honesty! This year my goal is to add a second Rattler team as well as introducing the Ravenna Rattler Rookie Camps for kids ages 5-7 to provide opportunities for kids to get started on their Player Pathway as early as possible. I look forward to seeing how much the kids have grown over the winter!’ - Chris

Junior Development

WHAT STAGE ALONG THE PLAYER PATHWAY IS MY JUNIOR AT? According to the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado, there are 6 stops along the player pathway for developing Juniors in Golf. This pathway is defined to help understand what stage your Junior is at and what to expect from your Junior in each stage. We use it as our guidline, along with teachings from the PGA’s Junior Development program to develop Ravenna’s Junior Program’s . This pathway is at the core of all of our Junior offerings. Stop 1: Active start: Children in the Active Start stage should see physical activity as a fun and exciting part of everyday life. Through Play and Movement, they develop the fundemental movement skills that will provide the foundation for learning fundemental golf skills at older ages. The Active Start stage also helps children to build interest in the game and confidence (both in golf and individually) while also developing an early understanding of the games inherent values. Stop 2: FUNdementals: Children in the FUNdemental stage develop fundemental skills in a structured, fun, and challenging environment. Formal competition is minimally introduced as are rules and etiquette. Core Values and life skills may also be introduced in the curriculum. Stop 3: Learning to Play: During the Learn to Play phase, children should be converting their fundemental skills to competitive skills. This is considered the “Golden Age of Learning” for golf skills. More more time should be spent on training and practicing skills. Stop 4: Train to Compete: At this stage the game begins to transistion from fundemental development to competition. Golfers commit to training throughout the year with a potential end goal (College) in mind. This stage is a testing ground for Junior golfers to decide if they want to fully commit to competition. Stop 5: Train to Win: The Train to Win phase is the final stage of the competitive pathway. Quality competitive outcomes are the primary focus. Tournament results have a direct impact on the college recruiting proccess which is the end goal for many Juniors who aspire to this phase. In this phase Juniors commit significant time to training and developing their game modeling all aspects of competition in their preparations. Stop 6: Active for Life: Active Life is both a stage and outcome of the Player Pathway. In this stage, athletes and participants enjoy life long participation in a variety of competitive and recreational opportunities.
