Photographing Wildlife

A photograph can speak a thousand words, but an incredible image can speak for a lifetime. Photography is a significant tool in the conservation of both wildlife and culture, and has played a crucial role in raising awareness and driving action. As a wildlife photographer, your aim is to capture a moment in time that will show how an animal relates to its surroundings. From a quiet, intimate moment of a parent with its young to the adrenaline fuelled rush of a hunt, your subjects will provide many challenges that will test your ability to master your camera and the art of photography. There is no better way to discover the magic of wildlife photography than to travel with a skilled photographer, learning or improving your abilities while immersed in unique wildlife experiences.

Photographing People

One of the most exciting elements of this photo safari is the opportunity to not only improve your wildlife photography skills but also your “people” photography skills. The culture of the Il Ngwesi Maasai is full of colour and life. While we are in the conservancy , the community members of Il Ngwesi are more than happy to have their photo taken, they might even give you a few tips! However we also ask that our guests respect local feelings and customs when taking photos. The community are very sensitive about photographing the warriors, naked community members and livestock unless with clear permission, which will be organised by your RAW Africa Tour Leader.

Equipment Tips

Having appropriate and well maintained equipment is imperative for a photographic safari. A comprehensive photo equipment list will be sent to you once you have booked your place on this incredible safari. •Digital SLR. •Standard portrait lens that will be used for portraits and landscape. •Telephoto lens for wildlife, I would recommend at least 300mm. •Wide-angle lens for landscape shots. •3 camera batteries & chargers. •Lens cleaning kit with a microfiber cloth. •Plastic bags or large sandwich bags that you can put your lens and camera equipment in. •A good quality camera bag. •3 memory cards for your DSLR. I would recommend 16 GB size. •Small portable hard drive. •Small DSLR travel tripod.
