ROCKWELL HOTEL TOWER Brooklyn, NY The hotel will rise approximately 300 feet and will include a rooftop bar and pool, a banquet hall, a ballroom, a performance space on the basement level, and a ground floor restaurant and mezzanine that looks onto an outdoor arts plaza. OPERABLE WINDOW
The 200-room Rockwell Place Hotel is designed to accommodate the growing number of visitors flocking to Brooklyn’s emerging cultural district. In a city and borough in the midst of a hotel boom, Leeser’s cutting-edge design is a much anticipated addition to the Downtown Brooklyn skyline. On the rise new hotels, the Wall Street Journal notes “The most impressive is the Marriott Autograph Collection coming to the Brooklyn Academy of Music district. The Wall Street Journal Renderings show a fractured exterior suggesting a glass box that’s been glued back together more than once.” Architect Thomas Leeser says the design reflects the borough itself: “It needed an architectural statement that talked about Brooklyn being a fractured borough of entities, ethnicities and economies.” The 30-story building, made of white fritted glass and metal, will feature dramatic asymmetrical fractures in the façade that reinforce a notion of Brooklyn as multi-faceted and modern. The outdoor arts plaza will rotate local art organizations exhibitions anchoring the hotel as a central public space within the new cultural district

Salboukh Residential Compound
Interior Design Workshop Presentation
SALBOUKH RESIDENTIAL COMPOUND Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
A sophisticated residential neighborhood with a flair of Mediterranean Macapital. rch 201The 3 charming community has resort in the north-west of the a choice of homes for families, couples and singles and offers an active lifestyle. The client, Gulf Related hired Omrania and Associates to design the multi-million dollar world-class residential compound in Riyadh which is intended to fill the acute shortage in residential housing in the Kingdom. The compound contains an energetic Village & Fitness Center that sets the design style of the place and encompasses many services for the residents. Walkways create a pleasant linear park atmosphere. Streets radiate out from the central area into the neighborhoods in a pattern that provides efficient vehicular access to residential units and minimizes the possibility of traffic congestion. Residential Units are divided into 3 categories: Apartments Buildings, Duplexes, and Villas. Plant patterns have been designed to create an “oasis in the central area and a shaded and pleasant landscape around the residential units and streets. The overall landscape has botanical experiences within the open spaces along the pedestrian circulation.
Destination KSA Š
NAILA ART GALLERY Riyadh, Saudi Arabia In this project I acted as a client consultant to Naifa Al Fayez which is one of the founders. The client had a vision of establishing an art hub in the capital Riyadh. It is intended to promote art and engage a wide audience. The gallery is set up to be a platform of support for not only the local creative scene but all of art and culture, and to establish a link between the local audience and the international art scene. Apart from being a gallery, it is to play host and organizer for a variety of creative initiatives in the city; from workshops, art talks to seminars and symposiums. It is also to have an active exhibition program and exhibit a wide range of works and mediums, from paintings to sculptures to heritage pieces. All of this made it imperative to design a multifunctional space that can be reconfigured for all the various activities. The two-floor minimal space is a blank canvas that steps back to the background so the focus is on the art pieces.

FOOD SPAN Erie Canal Harbor, Buffalo NY In the Master of Architecture fourth semester design studio, we undertook the design of a Comprehensive Architectural Project (CAP). We worked in a group and were assigned a program of moderate complexity on a site with challenging climatic conditions. The project incorporated extensive site and climate analysis, material research, structural and mechanical system design, and the documentation of construction details. The agenda of the studio was to develop a collaborative approach across disciplines that could produce architecture that was able to integrate systems at the scale of the building and make connections to infrastructural networks at the urban scale. The Building site is located in Buffalo, New York. Buffalo has a history of industrial practices along its waterfront which is reflected in the urban fabric. It also has an environmentally rich setting including the Buffalo River and Lake Erie. The site is on Prime Street right under the Buffalo Skyway (Route 5). After much research, the need for a revitalization plan for the area was identified. The objective was to activate the lost space under the sky bridge, provide community engagement and reconnect the city with the waterfront. Therefore, in addition to the assigned Supermarket program, The Hydroponic Farming program was added to provide a model of environmental and social responsibility. Hydroponic farming is highly productive and requires a fraction of the resources of traditional farming. It is ideal for urban areas. Local produce, eliminates transportation costs, so it will ensure affordability for low income households year round. The building provides visitors with a complete food experience. The building’s form was reached through a series of physical and computational generative form finding process. The Building addresses the post-industrial waterfront landscapes in terms of form and spatial compositions. The back side of the building sits higher and slopes towards the front in an attempt to mediate between the skyway and the river. It also opens up on the river to maximize sun penetration and provide views of the waterfront. The project makes use of residual urban space underneath the bridge that would otherwise remain largely inaccessible and unused.

URBAN HOUSING Soho, Manhattan NY The project is located at 101 Spring Street in Manhattan, New York. The lot is a corner site in a high density urban area of Soho. I set to explore a series of formal studies that explore the possibilities and push the limits of the site constrains. Starting from a simplified formal moment, elegant formations were reached through a series of computational explorations that takes into consideration the parameters of the project In tandem to the formal nature of the project, it was important to reflect the language in the selection of an extra program. I have chosen to create an herbal and perfumery shop that sources its herbs and spices from the botanical program of the building. This promotes community involvement and provides a source of income. The project explores how the space could be designed to give a sense of ownership of it to the community, and how it could be designed to generate income and therefore become affordable to wider range of occupants with different income levels. By examining the urban dwelling needs, the units or (pods) is designed to work volumetrically as interior spaces with terraces to act as a link between the pods as well as areas for planting. Habitat and co-existing eco system. The studio focused on the problem of housing in a high density neighborhood. The formation of in between spaces the establish transition at all scales, circulatory sequences and the establishment of new social, interactive spaces. Thus the housing program, along with a significant Botanical and urban agricultural program were analogous to the design.

COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER Redhook , Brooklyn NY The goal of this studio was to refine the question of algorithmic combinatorial geometry in relation to that which could be architecture. The primary emphasis is on the section and the model. Each aspect of the project however, aims towards a unique study with its own qualities. Models, drawings, renderings are taken as a relatable but not completely isomorphic. The form started with nest-list algorithms, which were then graphed spatially in a network. This was the first step in complexity. The network was then taken and reduced to two dimensions and a module was created. Through a series of physical and digital folding, many variations were reached and the second layer of complexity was established. The third step in complexity was in developing a combinatorial systems of connection: point to point, edge to edge, surface to surface. Already this introduced a lot more complexity. Then we examined different potentials of the combinatorial results and modified and modulated them in purely formal terms towards an architecture. Simultaneously examine a problem that at every step questions those explorations by inquiring into programmatic, socio-cultural, contextual and geographic logics in which its situated. The basic program is a community health center. At the same time, as a studio common core principle, we had to deal with the problem of the geological and geographical nature of Redhook in relation to flooding, transportation, and emergency evacuation.

Elementary School Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn NY “Deleuze effectively pushes to its limits a trajectory inaugurated in the Critique of Judgment, in which Kant explored the role of the imagination freed from the legislation of understanding. Four elements of his analysis are particularly relevant to the themes of The Logic of Sensation; Aesthetic Comprehension, Rhythm, Chaos, and Force. The STEM to STEAM initiative, the call to integrate the Arts alongside traditional STEM subjects into the primary curriculum of elementary schools, was take at its source. I investigated the work of contemporary artist Tara Donovan to start off a series of geometric and morphological studies. The three moments- Chaos, Rhythm, and Force- were considered as mapping material for a patterning system, identifying a combinatory language that defines the role of part to whole, cell to lattice. Their sensory logic progressed into prototypes that articulated programmatic, circulatory and organizational relationships enunciating a primary school pedagogy. Precedent studies compare distinct traits across several elementary school models and reveal an organizational and formal logic, which is tied to the enfolding of activities in space. The urban context was investigated to evolve the morphology of the site and expand on the given school program with an addiction that interfaces the school with its neighborhood.

TRANSPORTATION TERMINAL Erie Canal Harbor, Manhattan NY The project focused on form-finding through the hybridization of minimal surfaces to propose an alternative type of architecture. In terms of ontology, the goal was to she exclusively human considerations with regard to habitation, functionality, and aesthetic in order to include considerations of the demand of other forms of life as well as non-biotic, synthetic, artificial forms and systems. Disregard of natural processes in the city is and always has been costly and dangerous. Many cities have suffered from failure to take account of natural processes. The cost of disregarding nature extends also to quality of life. We witness this fact with unprecedented urban growth in cities across the globe. And if we look at urban history, we realize that the problems of contemporary urbanization are still persistent, just as plagued ancient cities. Nature has been seen as a superficial embellishment, as a luxury encountered only in parks and gardens, rather and meaningful urban form is than as an essential force that permeates the city. As the living community of other organisms is reduced and human interaction with that community is lost, there is an extinction of experience that results in a loss of real ecological knowledge and emotional attachment to nature. The design approach is to create a balanced urban ecology by promoting integration between humans and nature and encouraging intermodal transportation for a smaller carbo footprint. The purpose of ecological design is to create a vision of how the natural world and the human world can be rejoined by taking ecology as the basis for design. Ecological design intelligence—effective adaptation to and integration with nature’s processes can be applied at all levels of scale. Our built forms and systems need to imitate nature’s processes, structure, and functions, as in its ecosystems. Ecological design principles create a sustainable world with increased energy efficiency, fewer toxins, less pollution (both indoor and outdoor pollution) greener and healthy buildings. I tried to play with the idea of boundaries throughout the building. At some point offering interaction between the different ecosystems. While at other complete seclusion from one another, and at some parts there’s a sense of seclusion but a glimpse into the other system. Like in the ceiling voids where people can look up and see the growing plants there.

DIGITAL MEDIA & FABRICATION Digital media maintains that our most vital and critical questions in architecture enjoy a lift, an intensification when the media of their inquire reaches a limit, a threshold of communication, and have to be recalibrated to proceed on an altered track. The projects seek to cultivate the necessary agility for the negotiation of the critical leap in the architect’s movement into new forms production when these limits are encountered. It proposed to introduce and reintroduce critical practices, locating specific movements among concepts and object, topologies and tectonics, process and objects, and image and sense in architecture. The projects interrelated historical practices and conventions in forms of artistic practice, scientific representation, cartography and graphic media with contemporary techniques to establish a nuanced participation in the evolution of design intelligence formed in media. Projects explored in depth the limits of the trace, cut, fold, and projection in a series of computational works beginning with the most clear incision into a thing, extending through its most distant and removed movement and changes. Modes of generation, modelling, rendering, mapping, and animating matter were deployed as instruments wit varying effects to be played where they act as participants with the architect in the architecture’s production. Finally, projects recognized the working spaces of architecture as being continuously reformed and intimately linked with exchange in and among media practices. Architects continually deploy and employ materials for aesthetic effect. The digital fabrication projects take off the shelf materials as a point of departure and investigate how architects can manipulate, extend, and modify existing materials through design and experimentation with digital fabrication tools, especially the CNC router.
