SRP Helps Businesses Disinfect Air
Partners Amid A Pandemic:
SRP Helps Businesses Disinfect Air by Offering Rebate for Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation
Nearly one year after the world shut down, business owners are focused on recovering, while safely opening operations for their customers and employees. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Salt River Project (SRP) is offering a new rebate for a Heating Ventilation Air
Conditioning (HVAC) system upgrade that can help make shared spaces safer.
“As a community-based, not-for-profit public utility SRP continually advocates for our business customers and our community,” said Dan Dreiling, SRP director of customer programs. “This new rebate is one additional way SRP can help businesses recover, while company owners can improve the air in their facilities by disinfecting through the HVAC system as employees return to work.”
Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is a disinfection method that uses short-wavelength ultraviolet light to kill or inactivate microorganisms including common coronaviruses and help commercial customers reduce airborne viruses. When properly applied within HVAC systems, UVGI can help disinfect the air and can be a useful facility upgrade to any building size.
“We know our commercial customers, large and small, are working hard to adapt to new safety and precautionary measures to keep their employees and customers safe within their buildings and facilities during the pandemic,” said Nathan Morey, SRP manager of product development. “We want our business partners and the community to know that we are here to help.”
UVGI is in addition to, not in replacement of, recommended universal precautions that can reduce the spread of the coronavirus such as routinely and frequently cleaning or disinfecting surfaces in the facility. The UVGI rebate provides $30 per ton of HVAC and must be installed in the supply air stream or at the HVAC coils.
