Be Mindful about Food, Family & Friends

by Cathy Clements, Nutritionist & Life Coach, NASM CNC, CPT, FNS, WFS

Ilove the holidays! Prescott provides just the right temperatures for a fire roaring at night and outdoor activities during the day. The sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking.

But enjoying the holidays can be challenging. I think of the holidays as

October 31st through

New Year’s Day!

Back in early November, I begin taking care of myself by taking things off of my shoulders. I do a deep clean or declutter. This helps declutter my brain and keeps me feeling positive about the area around me.

I go through my pantry and my refrigerator as well.

And mostly, I think about my health and take an assessment of what I’m eating, how I’m moving and what I find myself thinking about the most.

As we are in the midst of the holidays, still take note of what you are eating, how much you’re moving and what you are thinking about. The holidays are to be enjoyed with family and friends. If any of these items becomes a negative issue for you, it changes the engagement you have with special times.

To enjoy your time more, think before you eat! If what you are preparing to put in your mouth is something that doesn’t benefit you, OK … but is it worth it? Is it a special sweet that your friend or family doesn’t make any other time of the year? Then eat it!

Having guests? I hope this year you are getting together with some of your besties and family. Get out of the house. There is so much to do and see right here in Prescott. The Quad Cities area gives many more things to see, all within an hour’s drive. If we get snow, some of the locations are even more beautiful: Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Subway Cave, to name a few. I’m sure you all have your favorites you would love to show to others.

Keeping a positive mindset can be hard during the holidays. If we focus on the positives and what we would love to have or have happen, then the outcomes are positive. Positivity during the holidays and surrounding yourself with people you love and love to be with is a great first step. Happy Holidays!
