This young man could very well be the fastest man in the world today..... Willie hordge has an interesting story of triumph, despair, tragedy, and perserverance all in that order. Usain, as in Usain Bolt (Lightning Bolt) is the World’s fastest man and World record holder at the 100 & 200 meter dash, and the above picture is of a 2003 FOREST BROOK GRADUATE in USA uniform crossing the finish line 1st, while Usain Bolt is looking at the clock and stunned at the outcome. He is the only person in the World that has ran away from Usain b e c a u s e Bolt TWICE on anchor leg of the 4X100 meter relay! Not only that but he is the only person that has set a RECORD on a f r a i d t o l o s e . ” him as well! - G a r th St ein By: Ray Burton
They received the baton at the same time and the FOREST BROOK GRAD put 4 meters of daylight on him...
The 40 yard myth...
By: Ray Burton
One thing that eats me alive is when I occasionally watch a pro football game, I hear the broadcasters praise an athletes speed, and they are cleary misinformed about the difference in speed and quickness. Most of the time they say that a guy is the fastest, due to his 40 yard dash time. Maybe its because I’m an ex-trackster and Track & Field fanatic that knows better... In the Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and the Denver Broncos, the fastest player in the NFL was in fact, on the field... But out of 112 million that watched the game, it may not be a thousand who knew who he was. Throughout the game, they were praising Percy Harvin of the Seattle Seahawks who returned a kickoff for a TD. He is indeed quite quick and explosive, but he could not hold the starting blocks that Denver’s Trindon Holliday has erupted from during an illustrious collegiate Track & Field career. Everybody praises a 40 yard dash for some reason, and even though there is no 40 yard dash in Track & Field, if you run a quick 40 you are considered the fastest in school, on the team, or the NFL for that matter.... In every 100 meter dash that I’ve won, I was never in the lead at the 40 meter mark.... I always made my move at the 55/60 meter mark, and all of those so called fast 4.2 /4.3 40 meter dash guys, were the first ones to get snatched... Is the football field 40 yards long? Right, I didn’t think so. For Track & Field’s sake, Trindon Holliday has run a 9.95 100 meters while slowing down at the finish. He also was the NCAA Champion in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.54, and the anchor leg of the NCAA Champion 4x100 meter relay team. Did I mention that he is one the most dangerous kickoff returners in the NFL? And get this, he is only 5’5 and 156 pounds... Okay, I’ll wait a minute while you scratch your head in disbelief.... To sum it all up, if they were to say the quickest versus saying the fastest, I’d be writing another article. There is an old saying that the Horse is quick, but he isn’t quick for long... In sprinting, quickness is an instant sensation that pays off at the start... Go figure... And to all of those 40 yard dash quicksters, meet the 100 meter guys at the track........
