New for 2014: Augmented Reality Heritage Hunter App
Meet and Greet personal appearances at intervals between 10am and 4pm at Minehead Railway Station plus additional activities and things to do.
2014 is an exciting time to visit the West Somerset Railway with the launch of our brand new ‘Augmented Reality Heritage Hunter’ App. You are invited to mix history and heritage with new technology and travel on the West Somerset Railway to have a fantastic day out learning about the history of the line, its stations, locomotives and local area. The brand new app features maps and Information about our History, Stations, Locomotives. The app features an ‘Augmented Reality Heritage Hunt’ whereby you have to solve clues within the app to find hidden ‘targets’ at or near each of the stations to unlock 3D moving images and content related to the railway.
At each Station* you have five tasks to undertake to complete the app. Once you have completed 100% of the ‘Heritage Hunter’ you will be entered into a draw to win one year’s free travel on the West Somerset Railway as well as receiving West Somerset Railway discount vouchers as a reward for completing the ‘Heritage Hunter’. Check out our web site for suggested timetable itineraries to allow you to maximise your visit to allow you to visit as many stations as possible. The app is free to download and is available for iOS and Android.
Volunteering
West Somerset Railway 2014
How to find us
There are around 900 active volunteers on the West Somerset Railway without whom the Railway would grind to a halt. Volunteers are able to work (subject to undergoing training and sometimes passing a medical examination) in all aspects of the West Somerset Railway. Please contact 01823 433856 or email volunteers@wsrail.net. The youth group, “Trackers”, encourages boys and girls from 13-18 to take an active part in the operation of the railway. Please contact 01643 704996 or email info@wsrail.net
Generous discounts are available for prebooked groups of 16 people and above. Your seats will be reserved for you so that you can sit together and reservation signs will be in the appropriate windows on the train. Choose from our delicious ‘Group Catering’ menu and pre-book a FREE optional on train talk from one of our Couriers. You can hire individual carriages or charter a whole train. Please contact us on 01643 704996 for a quote or to request our Groups Guide or email info@wsrail.net
Dogs & Bikes Dogs are welcome on board but must be kept on a lead and on the floor under the table. Dogs travel at £2.00 each for the day. Bikes can be carried in the Guard’s Van at £2.00 per bike.
