BIL 101 WORKSHOP 2.4 SYNTHESIS PAPER
Download Activity 4: Individual Assignment: Synthesis Paper Your synthesis paper will be between three and four pages long. Please follow APA style guidelines, and be sure to cite your sources. Copy the questions into the body of your paper and answer the questions in well-written paragraphs. Don’t simply make lists or answer in sentence fragments. Show that you have “synthesized” the information: you’ve thought about the material, and developed your understanding. Some of the questions will require that you apply the principles learned to life in the 21st century.
Submit a copy to your instructor using the Dropbox by 11:59 PM EST of the last day of the workshop.
1. List and briefly describe the three periods of Moses’ life. List and describe two of Moses’ accomplishments and two of Moses’ weaknesses. (Refer to the scripture and Lennox passages that you have read as well as the notes on Moses in the LASB, p. 117. What do you learn about God from Moses’ life? (Be sure to read Deuteronomy 34:10-13.) 2. Describe what influences ancient laws regarding relationships to oneself, others, and the land have on our present-day laws. (List at least four parallels that you see.) Why do you think the phrase, “I am the Lord your God” is repeated throughout Leviticus 18 & 19? 3. Describe the significance of the Tabernacle. Why was it placed in the middle of the camp of the Israelites? List the 5 types of sacrifice required from the Hebrews and discuss their importance. (See Lennox chapter 9, pp. 103-104) 4. List and briefly describe the promises God made to Abraham (cf. Genesis 12 and Genesis 15). Summarize the promises God made to the Hebrews as a people group through Moses (Exodus 19:1-8; Exodus 23:20 through chapter 24:12). Discuss the characteristics of ancient covenants as seen in these Exodus passages. What kinds of covenants might be made in our day? (For example, how is putting an “honesty statement” on your paper a form of covenant? Why is a down-payment important in business transactions?) As you think about the significance of a covenant, what insight do you gain about your relationship with God?
