Download 1.5 Assignment: As I Start to Study the New Testament Introduction and Alignment This is a personal reflection essay in which you will describe your previous experience reading and studying the Bible and what you hope to learn from this class. This will help you to focus your efforts over the next few weeks and also help you prepare for the final paper.

Background Information Our personal experiences with the Bible, either positive or negative, impact our study of the New Testament in this course. This essay will give you the opportunity to evaluate how your past experience will affect you in this class. It will also give you the chance to set some personal goals and purposes for your study of the New Testament as we move forward.
Instructions 1. Make a list of some of your previous experiences reading the Bible from childhood up to now. This could involve anything from the Old Testament, the New Testament, or the Bible as a book itself. For example, you might remember learning about the New Testament in Sunday School as a child or hearing scripture referred to in political campaigns. If you have had little to no exposure to scripture, please reflect on any thoughts or notions about the Bible that have come to your mind in the course thus far. Also, make a list of goals that you have for this course, things that you want to learn or develop over the remainder of the course. You may want to develop your knowledge about what is in the New Testament or more frequently apply scripture to your daily life. (You will include this list with your paper.) 2. Write a 450-550 word essay in which you describe two previous experiences and two of your goals for this class (approximately 250 words for each half). That would make for 4 total items (two past experiences and two goals). The paper should follow the APA formatting guidelines as set forth in the syllabus. This will make an approximately two page paper. As a personal reflection essay, the contents should relate to your own life and experience but also be directly relevant to this course on the NT. Especially important is how your analyze the impact of past experience and how clear and specific your goals for the course are On the Course Menu, select Course Material. Then select Workshop One, and submit your paper using the As I Start to Study the New Testament assignment tool by the end of the workshop. The instructor will use the following rubric to grade this essay.
