Welcome to our Summer/Autumn 2017 Village Newsletter, full of updates on what’s going on around the RBLI Village. Everyone is welcome to join our events. Upcoming events include a Classical Summer Concert in the Village, monthly film nights

at Mountbatten Pavilion, Motorbike Mayhem at Base Camp and Summer Fayre at Gavin Astor House during August and many more. See you at our events!

VOLUNTEER AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE We are looking for volunteers to undertake various roles including admin support, befriending, receptionists and catering volunteers. VETERANS APARTMENTS OPENED RBLI’s 24 new apartments which are specially designed for injured veterans and those with support needs have now taken in their first residents. Martin Aldridge, 61, who moved in June, said he is

overwhelmed by his new home. He said: “I can only say that this is like a palace compared to how we were living before.”

BUFFET SELECTIONS FROM BASE CAMP Three different buffet menus are now available at Base Camp. The menus include a Simple Finger Buffet (£5 per person), Mid-Range Finger Buffet (£7per person) and Premium Fork Buffet (£15 per person). All of the three menu options include wide selection of options including sandwiches, bites, snacks and beverages. Premium Fork Buffet also includes delicious deli meat and cheese boards. Base Camp also serves delicious afternoon tea for £8 per person with pre-booking. For booking a buffet or afternoon tea call Base Camp Assistant Manager, Steve Blakemore, on 01622 715290

KENT-BASED EVENTS FOR VETERANS RBLI would like to invite all those who have served in the Armed Forces and are aged 65 or over to their series of Kent-based events. Each of the events will provide an opportunity to meet new people and talk to the many organisations providing health advice, social activities and more in your local area. The events are delivered in partnership with RBL and others to help improve the health and wellbeing of older military veterans.

VICTORY SHED GARDENING GROUP WELCOMES EVERYONE The Victory Shed Gardening Group is based on the RBLI Village near Base Camp. It is part of the wider Kent Sheds project, which is looking to establish a number of Shed projects across Kent. The Sheds provide opportunities for people to participate in practical group activities such as engineering projects, woodworking or gardening. Kent Sheds’ projects enable people to share and learn new skills, by working together ‘shoulder to shoulder’ to support one another. The Victory group is free to join, and welcomes anyone, whether you are a keen gardener, just want a chat or want to spend more time outdoors. POP IN FOR HELP AND ADVICE The Royal British Legion’s Pop In Centres offer a welcoming space for Service personnel, Veterans and their families to get practical help and advice. Members of the public can also find out about the wide range of services and community activities provided by the Legion. The local Pop In Centre offers sessions on Mondays and Thursdays from 10am-4pm and is located at Kent Office, RBLI Village, Hall Road, Aylesford, ME20 7NL. BRITISH LEGION POP IN CENTRE OFFERS ADVICE AND HELP The RBLI Village Military Veterans Support group is run by Veterans for Veterans at the Dennis Cadman House every Tuesday from 10am-2pm. The purpose of the support group is to provide a safe environment for Veterans to meet and provide

mutual support, information and advice. All military Veterans are welcome to join this group. For more information about the Military Veterans Support Group please call Neil on 07831 413891

JOIN THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION VILLAGE BRANCH The RBL Village Branch would like to invite you to their next meeting being held on Monday 3rd July at 18:00 in the Capel Morris Centre. The following meting is held on Monday 4th September at 18:00 also at Capel Morris Centre. All are welcome to
