DIRECTOR'S NOTES There is simply so much that can be said about this past year (plus a few months). A year ago February, we were in the beginning stages of rehearsals for a show we never got to perform. Instead, we got to live in "unprecedented times" to "flatten the curve" while "masking up" and learning all about remote learning, Zoom, Google Meets, Google Classroom, the limitations of the internet... But in the midst of it all, we found refuge in the arts. Free concerts streamed through channel after channel. New movies were released on streaming services instead of the theaters. Broadway shows streamed on YouTube. And so, when given the opportunity, the RBMS Drama students chose to push forward with a virtual play. This show explores the variety of emotions and situations we all went through during the early phases of our stay-at-home order: anticipation, the bread baking days, the Tiger King days, the "get me out of the house" days... all from a student perspective. It speaks to their resilience and flexibility as they took on roles ranging from angsty teenagers to the COVID-19 virus itself, rehearsed and took direction through Zoom rehearsals, and performed via Zoom as well. These students, and all students really, are the heroes here. They've changed everything they know without much complaint, and many have even thrived in this more flexible environment. I could not be prouder of my actors this year for rising above all of our obstacles to put together a one-of-a-kind RBMS play. You all have taught me more than you can ever know!
